Thanks to @tarul for sending me your song!
I like the melody to this one, again, the production here is really nice, and I think the more pop direction is great. My one small gripe would be that it ends a little abruptly.
It's a surprisingly pretty collection of guitar instrumentals. The playing here is really intricate, and it makes for a really impressive album from a technical standpoint. It's just a really great listen, even if it can get a little repetitive towards the end.
Unfortunately I think Space Song is leagues better than anything else on the album, but everything here is still so pleasant to listen to. The production here is of course dreamy, but I think it's the singing that puts the album above so many of their contemporaries. The layering of the vocals is incredible, as if they're drowning in the production. Each song is very slow and methodical, giving you enough time to truly get lost in everything, it's glorious.
This album just bored me the whole way through, there's nothing outright bad about this album, but there's also nothing that makes me want to revisit this anytime soon.
Pretty much an upgrade from his (already great) 2023 album. The production here is so much richer and more expansive, the instrumentation here is such an important aspect of this album, even moreso than others of a simila nature. It feels like this album is a love letter to soul and jazz music. McKinley Dixon sounds so much more confident in his rapping here, you can tell he's spent the last 2 years really honing his craft, and perfecting what already made him a special, up and coming ... read more
You really get an appreciaition of Kirk's talents as a musician here, the fact that he could play multiple instruments simultaneously boggles my mind. I also thought that the small spoken word smaples that are interjected at times throughout this album gave it a unique edge that others didn't. This album still manages to maintain a laid-back feel to it, the flute palying is incredibly easy on the ears, and a lot of the compositions here are really fun to listen to.
What an absolutely gorgeous album from beginning to end. I love how traditional instruments are incorperated here in an ambient setting. It's music to make you feel good about yourself, to calm you down, to bridge the gap between you and nature. this really sounds like she took the beating heart of the natural world around her and put it in the music here. I thin the traditional instrumentation here makes the music sound weathered, like it's been through so much in life, and is ... read more
Thanks @Farsin for sending me your new song!
Really cool and multi-phased song, you don't even notice when new elements are brought in because it's all so seamless, but everything comes together to create such a layered and truly immersive piece of music. Really excited to see how this works within the album!
Thanks @Krole for recommending me this album!
It's a pretty great collection of songs. At times, it can sound a little generic, but I also think that comes down to everything sounding incredibly clean and well made. Not really much to say because it's just solid all around.
This album is really ahead of the curve in some places when you compare it to a lot of modern industrial hip hop. It's interesting to hear an early 2000s take on combining overwhelming electronic production with straightforward rapping. Unfortunately I think this album peaks pretty early on, and right at the end, a lot of moments in the middle sounded more like filler than anything else, but the good momets here are great.
Little Simz doesn't really shy away from any of what she has gone through recently. For those unaware, she lent producer and longtime collaborator Inflo a loan of close to £2 million, which she hasn't seen anything of. Because of this, she has sued Inflo, and taken him to court. The first song is this brutal takedown of Inflo as an individual and describing, in pretty large detail, what happened and her thoughts on the matter. You can tell that she means everything she says, ... read more
Cities Aviv's music has yet to properly click with me, while I found him fascinating as a producer, he always left a lot to be desired as a rapper. Very unfortunately, this album failed to really change my mind. I want to get one thing out of the way, I think Cities Aviv is one of the most genius producers in hip hop right now. His ability to pull all these sounds and samples together to create something cohesive and wholly original is unparalleled and fascinating. However, he absolutely ... read more
Everything here as such a foreboding and insidious feel to it. The samples here feel simultaneously very sonically consistent, but also all over the place with how they come in and out of the music, it's as if you're trying to make an original song with whatever you ahve lying around. Though the songs can vary a bit, from being pure noise, to distorted instrumental hip hop, every track here maintains this gloomy aesthetic, and it leads to an incredibly consistent and cohesive record.
Sonically, this is probably the biggest jump in Radiohead's music so far, leaning completely into the experimentation that OK Computer dabbled in. Something that surprised me about the album is how much it incorperated ambient elements so naturally with the rock elements they had already mastered. The writing is probably the thing that has stayed the most consistent, it's very abstract, but you can still understand the societal frustration that is being conveyed here. The electronic ... read more
Nearly 35 years later, and still nothing sounds quite like this album, it's like they found the exact combination of sounds to make an album sound as gorgeous as possible.
I found this album so charming. Alberghetti is a really great singer, and she does a lot of these songs justice. I get that the old-timey standards style isn't for everyone, but I personally think there's almost a timeless quality and lasting appeal to a lot of music like this. This album also still sounds great production-wise for being close to 70 years old.
I'm convinced there is a 10/10 album hiding in here somewhere. All of the parts are here, the ethereal, angelic production, combined with some more experimental electronic elements, with absolutely gorgeous singing gliding above everything. The first track promises a much more dynamic album, glitchy production that's very reminiscent of FKA twigs' "Magdalene" (Even though this released first), but a lot of this album is much more ambient than that. Karyyn uses her voice ... read more
Really good and pretty laid-back, I didn't find it to be the most interesting thing in the world, but it was pleasant nonetheless. It feels like it has a larger focus on atmosphere rather than composition, which lead to an overall good experience, but no one moment standing out for me.
It's a decently pretty ambient album, it's well textured and sounds surprisingly detailed. There's a very cold, urban aestethic to this, crowd noises are almost completely drowned in ambience. That beings said, there isn't much that sets this album apart from a number of other ambient albums of a similar vein. (also wooo 1000 reviews!)
Very weird knowing it's supposed to be about 9/11. The samples here feel so random, but maybe that's the point to create this feeling of disorientation. The whole album feels like I'm fading in and out of consciousness, it captures such a specific vibe really well with all of the samples being thrown together.
