This is really sad, but also really beautiful at the same time. The production can go from serene to glitched out really quickly and I think it does a great job at conveying a really split headspace. FKA twigs' singing is absolutely angelic, and full of emotion. I wish I had more to say about this album, but it really is a one of a kind experience.
Gismonti shows off such a great display of creativity here. There's elements of classical, prog, latin, jazz, and everything comes together so well. The whole album feels like walking through nature in the middle of summer, and feeling the light breeze. Gismonti's singing is also great, it's really light, and compliments the rest of the album really well. I honestly thought is was a little too short, with how many ideas are present here, 32 minutes feels almost restrictive. ... read more
Thanks to @Arctic29 for sending me your EP!
It's very easy to see the Godspeed influnces here, the slow buildups, the layered insturmnetation, but I think the larger focus on noise, especially in the latter half of this track/EP, is enough to not feel like it's just relying on its influences. This is really good at building this heavy, almost damning atmosphere, which is aided greatly by the sample in the first half.
It's great seeing such a progression in Backxwash's music. This is probably her most unique album sonically, ditching the blaring industrial production, and moving more towards a collection of experimental beats. This album even sounds serene at points, and has a really interesting approach to rap music. Backxwash's writing and rapping suits this change in production, it remains dark, and even puts what's being said on more of a pedestal. Probably my favourite album of hers, ... read more
I don't really know the ins and the outs of metal music, but I can still tell that this is doing something creative and unique with the metal genre. The instrumentattion here is fantastic, everything is so perfectly layered and are powerful in their own way. I definitely think I need more experience in this style of metal to properly appreciate what this album has set out to do.
Thank you @Farsin for sending me your album!
There is definitely a quiet sadness with this thing, over the course of about 80 minutes, you are slowly immeresed into the mind of this fish as it decays. The approach to ambient here, and the way it relates to the overall narrative, is really good. This has a lot more substance than some other ambient albums I've listened to, pulling inspiration from classical music, electronic, and industrial music. It makes for a really unique listening ... read more
This album is so much fun to listen to, the combination of the orchestral and prog elements is pretty unique, and the idea is executed really well here. The two elements compliment and juxtapose each other nicely. I also like how each song transitions into the next, making it feel like a single, cohesive project. The singing here is also really good, it's only on a few songs, but it really elevates the whole album to another level of quality. That being said, it definitely has a stronger ... read more
This definitely isn't for everyone, it's spoken word poetry over some pretty generic, but still decent, 80s era instrumentals, which can seem jarring at first. That being said, it works here. It surprisingly doesn't get boring, the very monotone delivery works with lulling you into a trance, especially when it goes on for 20 songs, and it makes the music here work pretty well. I think what really makes this album works is the writing, there is such an entertaining and creative ... read more
It feels very reminiscent of old-school stoner rock, and I think that works to the album's detriment. The album doesn't really have any identity of its own, not that it's a bad album. The riffs here are heavy, and the singer has a pretty unique voice that compliments the instrumentation well, probably the most notable thing of the album, but it doesn't give the album enough of an identity to warrant any replay value. This album is pretty one note, also, if you've heard ... read more
The main detractor for me was the vocals, I guess they're "raw" like the rest of the album, but they took away from the experience more than anything. Other than that, this was a pretty fun and creative listen, there's a lot of strange melodies being combined here to create a pretty unique album. Everything sounds like it's trying to grab your attention at the same time, which can make the album feel clunky at times, but it also makes for some pretty creative musical ... read more
Kendrick's most personal album, with it getting really dark at points. The writing here feels very honest, it's as if he's trying to get out all of his opinions about himself and his position in music. He discusses how he views himself, his relationship, the state of music, and the state of the world. Nothing here is necessarily new, but it's presented here without any filter, and it can make for a pretty uncomfortable listen at times. Something that caught me off guard with ... read more
The very slightly bitcrushed nature of the music here does make it stand apart from similar albums. I can also appreciate the different styles of music attempted here, it never really elevates to anything beyond "decent", but I see a lot of potential in some of the tracks, especially the closing 2.
I honestly just found this album to be really boring, I get that this album is going for intricate atmospheres and soundscapes rather than songs with a typical song structure, but this just didn't work out for me. None of the ideas presented here were all that interesting, and it became a bit of a slog towards the end, with the music feeling completely directionless at points.
Thank you for the recommendation!
Such a pretty album, the guitar playing here is nice, and the vocals are pleasant. I wish the other tracks were as good as the first because that opener blows everything out of the water. Still great though
It's such a pretty album, made out of 3 pieces about 20 minutes long each, making heavy use of nature recordings and slow, methodical production. The repetitive aspect of the music here works in its favour to create these lush atmospheres.
This album is a lot more expansive than Come In but still contains that very raw, lo-fi sound that made that album so special. Weatherday has such a great singing voice, I suppose objectively it is "flawed", but it fits the album so well. This album is very noisy, the riffs feel very garage rock inspired, and everything is mixed to maximize impact. While that could end up with an album that sounds like an overwhelming mess, the way it's handled here makes for a really powerful ... read more
I have been anticipating this album for the past 2 years now. Care For Me was one of the first albums to get me into listening to music, so Saba's music has always been pretty special to me, "PROM/KING" is one of my favourite songs of all time period. I always appreciated how his music reflected different aspects of his life: Bucket List Project was the embrace of youth and being carefree. Care For Me was the other side of that coin, experiencing the more sombre aspects of his ... read more

It's easy to make an album like Feedbacker boring, an album relying so heavily on, as the title implies, long, droning guitar music, can seem repetitive and uninteresting at first, but the way Boris approaches the genre is fascinating. I love how slowly the album builds tension, from the first few seconds of the album is complete silence, juxtaposing nicely with the really noisy ... read more
I'm surprised this has zero ratings or reviews because this is a pretty decent album. It has a much more "Lo-fi" sound than their "Viva Last Blues", which already had a pretty garage sound to it. I think there are moments where the unpolished nature of the album works to the album's detriment and benefit. On the one hand, there is genuine emotion behind the singing here, it; 's raw, constantly breaking, but on the other hand, everything can sound a little ... read more
Harsh, abrasive, and doesn't waste any time, it succeeds at everything it sets out to do. Every moment here packs a punch.
