I'm actually surprised I like this as much as I do. It came out straight of the late 2010s moody Soundcloud era, many songs out of the scene have not aged well at all, but this song scratches a very specific itch that pretty much every other song doesn't. This song is also made a lot sadder learning more about unaloon/Lil Bo Weep, will have to check out more of her stuff if it's this level of quality.

Actually insane how good this song is, honestly might become a 100 ... read more

I think this more clubby, dance approach works much better for Shygirl's style of music and delivery. Although it's pretty short, every track here packs a punch, the production is bouncy and fun, and the performance works well to match it. A shame this EP got a little forgotten about by the end of the year.

This sounds like a combination of the two other albums I've listened to from Sezen Aksu in terms of sound, the combination of the traditional instrumentals of "Sevgilerimle", with the more pop focused "Aฤlamak Güzeldir". There's not much to say about this album other than it's really good. Sezen Aksu is a really talented singer, and this is showcased here really well. I also really like the heavy emphasis on folk ... read more
This album is very tragically written, with it detailing how dependant the singer has become in a relationship that has now ended, and how the aftermath of said relationship has affected him. The production here is lush, it goes from quiet ambience, to a cacophony of sounds relatively quickly but the song never sounds cluttered in any way. Parts of this album really feel like I'm floating with their production and instrumentation. Each song, with some of their lengths, are given room to ... read more
It was going to be hard to top the majesty that is "Come To My Garden", but "Perfect Angel" is still an absolutely incredible listen. First of all, Minnie Riperton is one of the greatest singers in history, and even though this album has a slightly more commercial, accessible sound, she still maintains that power in her voice that made her such a commanding listen in the first place. Every time she reaches those high notes it's incredible. This album focuses a lot less ... read more
Really unique combination of UK electronic and grime. Shygirl's rapping is decent, but I think it often lacks the intensity of the production. There are some really high highs here, though I think the albums starts stronger than it ends.
If their self-titled album was them testing the waters, then Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" is them fully embracing the metal sound. An album so heavy that it's crushing, the singing feels like such a large improvement, but honestly that could just be me getting more used to it. My only gripe with this album is the weird vocal part on "Electric Funeral". The writing feels so massive in scope, handling ideas such as the pointlessness of war, the dangers of drug ... read more
While going through all of Swans' albums I must of accidently skipped over this one. This was released right in the middle of their of their super noisy, industrial period of their career, and you can hear them continuing to evolve their sound. This album sounds like the combination of their previous album's strengths, Michael Gira's raspy, shouting style of singing his on full display here, his voice really lends well to this style of music. Overall, I'm surprised at how ... read more
Heavy, weird, distorted vocals, over ambient, droning instrumentals, what's not to love? Some real haunting stuff here, even if it can feel a little repetitive after a while.
Always going to be excited for new Samlrc (or I guess semente in this case). I'm not sure quite what to think about this one, it's definitely a good song, the production here is interesting, it definitely fits the title of "Crunch", and the blend of both heavy and light instrumentation creates a really interesting contrast.
A strange album for me, I can recognize that each aspect of the album individually is great, the production really good, and hasn't aged a day, Beth Gibbons' singing is beautiful, and the writing is incredible and tragic, but all together, this album just didn't click with me all that much. Definitely worth a second listen, because I appreciate this album on a technical level, and the influence it had on the Trip-Hop genre.
Spoken word is such a fascinating genre of music to me because of how versatile it is as a style of music. One of my favourite albums of all time, "Shawnee, Ohio" by Brian Harnetty is almost entirely spoken word. The way people can transform the simple act of people speaking into an entirely new context is something that should be celebrated.
This album is extremely heavy emotionally, with it being dedicated to a friend of the artist who died. The writing here is incredibly blunt and ... read more
In her debut solo album, Juanita Stein goes for a pretty typical country sound. I was actually surprised to learn that she was actually Australian, because she nails the americana feel really well. Stein's wispy vocals glide over the production here. I also found the album surprisingly catchy, the production is really smooth, and it's really impressive as a debut album, though I definitely think the second half is stronger than the first.
I found that some of the slower songs didn't do much for me, but this is still a decently impressive pop album. It really sounds like Billie Eilish is evolving as a musician, the production here sounds like a combination of standard pop stuff and more experimental sounds, it really feels like Billie Eilish is trying to branch out here, and I can respect her for that. Also her singing is incredible on every track.
It's hard to separate the art from the artist when "jschlatt" did what he did to those people back in 1999, but he does a decent job here trying to sweep all that under the rug.
A decent little EP from Dev Lemons, even if it is really short.
Thanks to @healio for showing me your album!
Wow, this is some legitimately beautiful music. I'm impressed at how great the singing is, the vocals really elevate each track to another level in terms of quality. This album also sounds great production-wise, this honestly sounds like something I would hear from a more mainstream artist. My one issue with this album is that almost each track feels too short, it makes the whole album feel a little less substantial than what it otherwise could ... read more
I'm amazed Robert Smith sounds as youthful as he does, he doesn't at all sound like a 65 year old man who's been making music for over 50 years. This whole album sounds great, the guitar work is really impressive, the fact that many of the songs just build for like 2 or 3 minutes before any singing was really cool. Interested to check out their older stuff to see how it compares.
Tristwch y Fenywod (translating to "the Sadness of Women")'s debut album is phenomenal. I love how off the rails it gets towards the end, with the singing becoming more and more screaming and screeching, and the weird instrumentation becoming more and more chaotic, it reminded me a lot of "Girl With a Basket of Fruit" by Xiu Xiu. This album absolutely nails the ritualistic, almost cult-like atmosphere, as you descend more and more into insanity. The unique sound of this ... read more
