A pretty decent collection of Hip Hop instrumentals, it focuses very much on sampling and vocal effects, and is effective in making a lot of good rap beats. It definitely sounds like a demo tape, and is a little short, with each track being about a minute long, which I would say is my main critique.
E L U C I D always felt forgotten during discussions about Armand Hammer, but he really made a lot of their songs what they were, and added a lot to the more unique and extremely experimental aspects of their music. His delivery is always distinct, sounding somewhat exasperated tired at points, and that's true here, there are a few switch-ups in his delivery, which are refreshing and prevents a lot of these tracks from becoming stale.. If you like the production style of a lot of Armand ... read more
This sounds great, the riffs are incredibly hard. Every track has some level of "Punchiness" to it, aided to that fact that no track goes on too long, so the energy of each track feels very contained. The dreamy aspect of this album added a lot of uniqueness to it. I would say that my least favourite aspect of this album would definitely be the the vocals, while they do go with the very heavy aspect of the instrumentation, they don't really translate very well to the lighter ... read more
Dds aren't doing anything too different here from their other albums, but it just feels like it's not executed as well. Plus there are some moments that just do not sound good at all.
So American tterroristt isn't overrated, it really is that fun of a song. That being said it's downhill from there, while there are some entertaining moments to be found in the other songs, and RXKNephew's delivery remains fun, the songs are a lot more generic, and just doesn't reach the same heights of that first track.
I respect Slauson Malone's style of music more than I personally enjoy it. With this project, he's moving more towards more fully fledged songs, rather than just small musical experiments. I wish I could say I managed to get fully immersed in the music here, but I just never felt that much of an emotional connection to this EP. That being said, there are a lot of things at play with this project that are extremely commendable, such as the distinct style of production, and the number ... read more
So good, I'm can't believe I hadn't listened to this song yet. This song goes to show how versatile Bambie Thug is with their music.
Thanks @thelemonbreadd for sending me your album.
Really impressive drone album, my only real gripe with this album is that the vocals didn't match the style of music all too well.
Take everything that made their previous two albums so great, and crank it up to 11. I love how theatrical this album sounds, the writing builds these abstract, incredible worlds, and it truly does sound like I'm being taken through a journey through hell. Probably their best and most complete sounding album of the three they released. It feels fitting that this may very well be their final album, given that this album sounds like the best possible album these guys could've made, and ... read more
Just didn't do much for me, I can respect this album for being nearly 10 years old, and still sounding fresh, but this album isn't really doing anything for me that other albums haven't don better since. This isn't a bad album by any means, just not something I would ever feel compelled to return to.
I can appreciate Swans trying something slightly different on this album compared to their previous 2. It still has that very industrial sound to it, but it doesn't feel as aggressive as before, Michael Gira's vocals are a little more reserved and sound more slurred than angry. Probably the biggest change between this album and their previous ones in terms of atmosphere to me was the addition of backing vocals in a lot of these tracks. I'm not sure if they ever appeared in any ... read more
Good Afrobeats album, it wasn't the most interesting thing in the world, but I did like a lot of aspects of this album. I thought the vocals were unique and added a lot of personality to these songs, also I thought that the production sounded really great. Haven't listened to that much Afrobeats, so I'm not sure how unique this album is compared to others in the genre, but it certainly wasn't anything I had heard before.
It's about as loud and violent as you would expect from Nails, but I can hear them trying to branch out and expand their sound, rather than them just making the same album again. The tracks here a longer, and feel a lot more complex, the vocals also sound a little more shriek-y than before. In terms of enjoyment I would say that this is on par with "Unsilent Death", but it's good to see them grow as a band.
This is just a good, fun jazz album, nothing all too complex or something you have to think too hard about, just put it on, and you'll have a good time.
Less explosive than Schlagenheim, but still good. The writing is as bizarre as ever, but it's presented in this slightly more theatrical and more grandiose way. Where Schlagenheim felt like the group kicking down the door and announcing their presence in the music industry in a way that felt hard to ignore, this album feels much more like one single, controlled experience, rather than just any old collection of tracks. Probably an album that will grow on me with repeated listens.
It sounds like it was made specifically to appear in the soundtrack of a late 2000s FIFA game
Didn't expect to hear a banjo in an album like this. Almost everything about this album is extremely explosive, from the instrumentation to the vocals. That being said, the interludes felt a little out of place and redundant, I feel like they could have been worked into the other tracks better.
It's an upgrade from their previous album in every way, the production sounds great, the writing is a lot better. The energy on this album is fun and carefree, like their previous album, but this one backs up that energy with great tracks, decent rapping, and overall, just being a really fun listen.
2nd listen: Absolutely an album you need to be in the mood for, still a really fun listen though.
This album tells the story of Amelia Earhart, and it feels like one long 30 minute song rather than a 30 minute album. This album does a pretty good job at translating the story of Amelia Earhart into a piece of music. Anderson's spoken word style of singing works well to move the story along, and the production is effective in building atmosphere.
Just saw this live, and it was crazy, I'll have to listen again in my own time to form a concrete opinion.
Edit: Definitely works better in a live setting, not a fan of the weird high pitched vocals at the start, and I didn't love the chorus. That being said, like most of their music, I expect this song to grow on me over time, also the energy of this song is really fun.
