The first track is really good, but the whole album is just the same flows, over similar, generic production, so a lot of the later tracks lose their impact.
Thanks to Kron6733 for showing me your album. This is a really great ambient album, it was produced really well and the whole thing felt really soothing.
This album is (I think) a collection of interviews with a number of elderly people who are members of the town of Shawnee, Ohio over simple, but great production. These are either entirely archived interviews, or a mix between archived interviews and contemporary interviews. It's important to note that Shawnee is now almost completely abandoned, from it's 1890 population peak of over 3,000, a little over 500 people live there today, it highlights how fragile and precious the contents ... read more
The whole thing sounds like I'm tired, lying in bed, not wanting to do anything. The production sounds incredible and dreamy, but solemn at the same time, the vocals are quiet as well, and it adds to the very lonely feel of the album. If you have 10 minutes to spare, I would recommend you listen to this EP.
This EP is heavy in both its sound and writing, I'm surprised it's an EP, considering how fleshed out it sounds. It wasn't as loud as I was expecting, and sounded a lot more slow and methodical than I would assume a typical grunge album or EP would sound. Still, as I said before, it's not a light album when it comes to its writing, the feeling of being fed up with everything wanting to leave it all behind is portrayed with a lot of honesty throughout the EP. This is helped ... read more
This is probably the least talked about of the Gorillaz albums, and I can see why, there's no real reason to listen to this album, especially considering it was released a couple months after Plastic Beach. I suppose it's impressive from a technical standpoint that this album was made on an iPad in 2010, it doesn't mean much if it doesn't translate to a good listening experience. The production is just really boring, and not at all creative or interesting like their previous ... read more
This whole album feels like it's trying to put me in a trance, the weird effects on the vocals, that make some of them sound ASMR-like, and the almost hypnotic style of production, make the whole album sound really off-putting and weird. That's not to say I think this album is bad, just that if you're not in the right mindset when listening to this, it'll probably be a really unpleasant listening experience. The vocal effects reminded me a bit of the "Utopia" ... read more
A pretty decent synthwave EP, it feels very reminiscent of the late 90s, early 2000s era of technology in its sound.
In my opinion, billy woods is one of the greatest rappers of all time, his music is so fascinating to me. Having listened to almost all of billy woods' solo music, I've noticed how important the production is in creating atmosphere for these tracks. This album, thankfully, has great production, and works well as a middle ground between his more recent albums and older stuff, while still having a distinct sound to it. The production here sounds more experimental than before, and shows ... read more
Pretty unique, it didn't catch my ear or anything, but it was a pretty fun listen.
If you liked Filth, you're probably going to like this album, if you didn't you're probably not. Swans continue their loud, industrial sound with Cop, Michael Gira's guttural style of singing is probably the most in your face aspect of this album, if your not reading the lyrics, it can be pretty easy to miss what he's saying. The writing is, as expected, pretty visceral, and adds to the heaviness of each track. Almost every aspect of this album is an amped up version of ... read more
This album is exactly what it sounds like, a scrapbook of little ideas thrown at each other. While this doesn't make for a cohesive album, a lot of this tracks are pretty fun and catchy. It's a little more experimental and sample-heavy than what I've heard from him previously, and it works, it shows his versatility with music.
The fun of this album had worn out for me by track 4, and there were still another 10 tracks to go, that being said the writing and performances remain energetic and ridiculous throughout the entire album. This album also sounds really good being released in the 70s.
Reminded me a little of Genocide Organ, but a little more relaxing. Noise is used here really effectively to convey feelings of hopelessness, the parts towards the end of the last track are made sound like explosions, and warped emergency sirens for example, and the little spoken word interjections on a couple of these tracks add a lot to the atmosphere being built. As a single project, it falls flat a little, these tracks could be played in any order and you would get the exact same effect and ... read more
This album has a lot of interesting ideas, but sadly it only successfully executes on some of them. The production on these tracks are pretty good, but a lot of them feel like they never get going. Mendoza has a pretty good voice, and enough range to keep a lot of these tracks interesting. This EP is also barely 15 minutes long, so no single idea gets all too tiring. Also the final track is fantastic.
If I'm being completely honest, I didn't personally gain a whole lot from this album, but I can absolutely respect it for what it sets out to do. I feel like I understand Frank Ocean better as a person after listening to this, he sounds incredibly introspective, the lyrics and performance make it sound like he's talking to himself alone. The whole album feels very personal, added in part to the very subdued style of production, which put further emphasis on the writing. This is ... read more
Louie Zong creates little dioramas in his music, like I'm peeking into a little world. Here, it's a small coastal city in the middle of summer, and everything is great. I'm not going to return to this album much, but it achieves what it sets out to do.
This album feels like a low-quality horror movie from the 90s, even down to the cover art, the production petty much every track has this creepy and brutal atmosphere, and of course the writing is violent. The rapping also feeling nonchalant in a way and adds a lot to how dark these tracks are, with it sounding like they're just talking about their life. Some of the more extreme aspects of the album, like Porno Movie, don't do it for me, and feel like extreme for the sake of being ... read more
This is a collection of essentially TPAB b-sides, so this is still a collection of phenomenal tracks. Of course, Kendrick's rapping and writing is still great, but it's clear that he's going for a few different, more experimental styles. Examples of this are the rapping/singing on parts of untitled 2, or the entirety of untitled 4, and the second half of untitled 7. It's Kendrick wanting to try out a lot of different musical styles that wouldn't have been appropriate ... read more
