I love how relaxed the whole album sounds, the production, and Cerati's vocals give this very laid-back atmosphere and, given that Cerati himself was the sole producer of this album, this is insanely impressive. I don't speak a word of Spanish, so I'm not sure how the writing fits into this atmosphere.
Before this album, MAVI was an artist who's talent I had yet to be convinced of, his two albums before this one I never thought was anything more than decent. I think this album does a much better job expressing his inner struggles compared to previous albums, it feels much more like I'm just reading pages of his diary, it has this very personal aspect to it. Each song sounds like one long stream of consciousness, which works well for the writing style MAVI is going for here. I do ... read more
This has probably been my most anticipated album of the year so far, I discovered Ravyn Lenae back in the summer of 2021 when I listened to the Smino song "Glass Flows", which she featured on. I was immediately blown away by her incredible voice on that song, and since then, I've been a massive fan of her music. With every project she has made, she has carved out a distinct sound for her in the R&B world, every Album or EP has been seen an evolution and development of her ... read more
It's a little short, but PinkPantheress has consistently been a refreshing voice in modern pop music over the past few years. This being the project that made her so popular makes so much sense considering how catchy it is, every song is incredibly produced, and manages to mix DnB with pop/R&B really seamlessly. Her voice is really great and adds a lot to the whole vibe these songs carry.
The current streak E L U C I D and billy woods have been on in the past few years is insane, the production here is incredibly unique on both tracks, and E L U C I D's rapping is great, I love how he has been pushing further and further into this experimental sound.
This is a pretty good DnB/Breakcore album, the samples I felt, were done pretty well and added another layer of quality to the album. On top of that the album just felt really consistent and cohesive
Being the first album following "History Will Absolve Me", billy woods had big shoes to fill if he was going to match the quality of that album. This album doesn't reach the same heights as that one, but still has a lot of woods' signature qualities. The writing here is, for the most part great, I'm not sure if I've said this about him in a previous review, but his style of writing manages to make everything have this giant scale to it, even if they're about ... read more
LIVE.LOVE.A$AP is the debut album/mixtape of A$AP Rocky, and it's an impressive debut. The production is great on a lot of these songs, with "Palace" being the main highlight for me. This is obviously place to improve on later albums, he could lean more into that psychedelic angle that a few of these tracks had. On the whole, I'm impressed that, this early on in his career, Rocky has already managed to carve out a distinctive sound for himself, even if it could use some ... read more
Under the right conditions, I can see this album being a 10/10. That being said, this is still an insanely fun project, the production is manic enough that no point in this album feels wasted or slow. The performance manages to match the production, meaning that this is a surprisingly cohesive album.
"Soldier Of Love" is the most recent album from Sade, and is my introduction to their music. This album is incredibly relaxing, thanks in part to the incredible singing, it's worth noting that you don't have to be loud to be a powerful singer, here, Sade manages to carry the weight of the album with her delicate, smooth voice. Interested in how this compares with their earlier albums, because I was really impressed with this project.
Each track, with exception of the final track, flows really well into each other, and works well as one single ambient project. I'm not going to pretend I know the purpose of the final track, nor the context of it, but I still think it works within the EP as a whole.
It's not the most stand-out thing in the world, but the production, writing, and rapping is enough to keep me entertained throughout.
Ghost definitely have a distinct sound and style of music, and it's one that I'm just not feeling. The production on this is no doubt great, and it captures this very ominous and cult-ish atmosphere to a tee. That being said, I didn't love the singing, I feel like it didn't mix well with the production style. I appreciate Ghost doing their thing, and I might check out another project from theirs someday, but this one just didn't click for me.
I'm going to like any song that has Jessica Pratt in it, and it was surprising to see her on a song with A$AP Rocky. I honestly quite like this song, the production is pretty good, A$AP's rapping is good, the writing (for the most part) is good. Jessica Pratt's feature does feel a little like an afterthought, but she still adds a lot to this track with her great singing.
I'm loving this new rock-orientated production, I think it works well with JPEG's style of rapping. This feels more solidly produced and well made than anything else I've heard from him. Even if the album is more rock orientated than before, the production still is varied enough to keep me interested and excited in wherever the album was going next. I think I still prefer the very manic feeling of STH, but this album is, quality-wise, the best JPEG album I've heard so far. ... read more
I would compare the atmosphere of this album as that of staying underneath a bridge in the middle of the nowhere, and trying to make a song out of the random sounds you here. Despite not understanding a word that's being said, I feel like there is so much emotion being expressed through both the singing and the production. It's hard to compare the production on this album to anything I've heard before, the closest thing I can think of is that some songs on here remind me a little ... read more
I'm shocked at how good this thing is, the album isn't too long, being under 15 minutes (and honestly feeling shorter), and every moment packs a punch. It's loud and in your face, but not obnoxious or unpleasant, thanks in part the heavy and great riffs.
The main thing I like about this album is that it sounds like one single song split up into 17 parts, rather than 17 different songs, it makes an album like this flow really well. The production is pretty unique, and has a slightly more commercial edge to it compared to other projects in this genre, while still remaining entertainingly experimental, and the features all do a pretty good job.
This album acts as an introduction for me to Bladee, so I'm not sure how this album compares to his other projects. Parts of this album feel surprisingly really well written, but the rapping gets pretty dull, especially after 30 songs. The production goes back and forth from sounding pretty interesting and good, to just sounding like a directionless mess. Perhaps if I listen to more albums in this genre, I'd like this more, but as it stands, I just couldn't get into it, the album ... read more
This is such a strange album, there are moments here which sound beautiful and others which are completely unlistenable, but it feels almost deliberate. Katie Jane Garside has a very unique voice and uses it to the album's benefit, adding to the strangeness of the whole thing. Her different vocal styles here, from almost spoken word to this screeching is something I haven't seen in an album before. There is a certain unsettling feeling that is created by both the writing and ... read more
