Niko B - dog eat dog food world
80

This is such a fun album to listen to, the production is bouncy and adds a lot to the entertainment value gained from this. The writing is very tongue-in cheek and funny, and Niko B is a decent rapper on top of it, and adds a lot of character to the writing with the delivery. Not every song carries this same energy, an example being the final track, which does bring the album down somewhat. Even then, from beginning to end this is an entertaining listen, and probably won't be my last.

Glitterer - Rationale
60

Thank you to "Botched Invocation" for the recommendation!
I've been wanting to listen to more styles of music, and thankfully this was a pleasant enough record to introduce me to this type of Emo/indie rock/pop. I'm not crazy on the guy's voice, but it doesn't really do much to hamper my enjoyment. I thought the production was pretty good, even if it wasn't anything all to special, which is how I'd describe most of the album really.

Genevieve Artadi - Forever Forever
71

There's an undeniable beauty to be found in this album that not many others achieve, and Artadi's voice glides over the production. That being said, the songs themselves do little to stand out and differentiate themselves from the others on the album, because of this, listening became a little monotonous by the end of the album.

Bill Orcutt - Odds Against Tomorrow
69

Bill Orcutt showcases his talents well on this album, even if it isn't the most stand out thing in the world.

Tems - Born in the Wild
88

"Born In The Wild" by Tems is shockingly good. The production from beginning to end is so relaxing and never gets boring. Tems is also a great singer and brings many of these songs to greater heights. Honestly might end up in my end of year top 20.

ZekeUltra - Carry Me Home
76

The mixing is a little iffy, but the writing and rapping is really good, however the singing towards the end kinda kills my enjoyment of the song a little. Surprised this doesn't have more ratings

samlrc - b, c
99

I'm not hyperbolizing when I say I think Sam has the potential to be the type of artist that only comes around once in a generation, something truly legendary. c is such an incredible addition, it expels my single issue I had with the EP, that it feels like it finished a little prematurely. This however, expands on the EP, breathing new life into it, transforming it into something even greater and larger in scope, while still remaining true to its emotional core. I am excited for whatever ... read more

KFC Murder Chicks - Cortex Rampage
74

After being pleasantly surprised by their album "The Shape Of A Burning Credit Card", I decided to check out an earlier release from KFC Murder Chicks. I can say that, although this isn't as strong as "Credit Card", this still has the artist's signature style, it's noisy, obnoxious, and an entertaining listen from beginning to end.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer - Pinball
52

Pretty run of the mill, nothing all that special.

Asher Roth - Temporary Heaven
72

Prior to this album, I only knew Asher Roth from his song "I Love College", which wasn't exactly very good. I'm thankful to say that this album is a pleasant surprise, the production his good, and Roth's flows are pretty consistently good. I wasn't blown away or anything, and the writing's pretty uninteresting. I'm curious to listen to Asher's other projects to see how they compare, because this was much better than I was expecting.

clipping. - There Existed an Addiction to Blood
58

When I listened to "Visions", a couple months ago, I was underwhelmed, but I decided to return to clipping. after familiarizing myself more with industrial and experimental hip hop. This didn't do much to better my enjoyment of the album however. I get why people like clipping., their music is like little horror stories, and they execute on the horror aesthetic incredibly well. The production is harsh and abstract, which creates this atmosphere of fear. However, the horror ... read more

------*500 RATINGS SPECIAL*------

This marks the 500th album I have listened to and rated. And so I decided to celebrate by listening to what is considered one of the greatest albums of the 21st century. I want to thank anyone who has taken the time out of their day to read any of my reviews, it means a lot to me. Thank you to anyone who has decided to follow me. Run The Jewels - RTJ4
86

This is RTJ's most politically charged album, and is inseparable from the state of America at the time. Both Mike and El-P sound angry on this project, and every single thing say feels like it came from a real place of emotion. The production is as usual great, and is actually more varied than what I've heard from RTJ before. No moment here feels wasted, and all the features do a really good job, the features actually make this album feel larger in scale, which works to it's ... read more

LustSickPuppy - Goatmeal
90

Even from the beginning, LSP had a distinct sound that separated them from other artists in the experimental/industrial hip hop scene. This is a song that from beginning to end, is high energy and insane. It's a song that's not even 2 minutes long, but the amount of personality in this song is crazy. The production, courtesy of Machine Girl is also great here, and adds to the crazed atmosphere of the song

Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time
75

This album executes the dreamy atmosphere to a tee. Every song on here has this almost otherworldly and ethereal feel to it. My only issue with this album is that I'm not huge on the vocal effects, it can be a little jarring at times.

OutKast - Stankonia
81

There's never a moment of Stankonia that isn't bursting at the seams with ideas, my real only issue with the album is the sheer number of interludes that I don't really feel add much to the album, I wish they had done more with these interludes.

billy woods - Camouflage
65

As you would expect from billy woods' first album, it's a lot more amateur-ish than what he would go on to create, the production is a little less refined than on something like "History Will Absolve Me". That being said, this is still distinctly a billy woods project, his rapping honestly hasn't changed that much compared to today. I could see how some of the tracks here, with a little reworking and polish, wouldn't feel that out of place on one of his more modern ... read more

PARTYOF2 - i was mature for my age, but i was still a child
73

This is insanely impressive for a debut album, the production on pretty much every song sounds super clean. They're also really good at the styles they attempt here, the fusion of Hip Hop and R&B sounds super fluid, and each member sounds distinct, while also being versatile in their own way. The chemistry each member has with each other is really great, and adds a lot to the dynamic of the group and the entertainment of the album. I'm not crazy on the rapping delivery during some ... read more

Unown - Redukqs
39

This album tries really hard to be great, but it falls flat for me. It's hard for me to take this album seriously when it has the guy from clipping. over the instrumentals for Bulls On Parade. On paper, this works, and maybe if they refine their sound somewhat and release a new project, they could make something pretty good. But the psychedelic production sounds super generic, and the Hip-Hop and rock/funk remixes are at points laughable. The album also sounds really disjointed, with ... read more

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II
70

Disclaimer: I listened to this album in two parts, which my affect my overall listening experience.
This album is, on a technical level, very impressive, and I found myself almost falling into the whole thing at points. Considering this album came out 30 years ago, it still sounds very clean. There's a lot of detail to be found in this 2 and a half hour album, which is a testament to Aphex Twin's technical capabilities. That being said, as for my personal enjoyment, not so much. ... read more

"@avg_music_enjoy nearly 2 years late but just listened to trench and holy shit it was incredible"
On JID - God Does Like Ugly
"@Phiroman I think it comes down to a personal preference thing, my favourite JID tracks are the ones where he's the main focus throughout. Not saying he can't bounce off others well, but I think he really shines when it's just him rapping his heart out."
On JID - God Does Like Ugly
"@Phiroman I expected this album to be weaker than the forever story, but it's weaker in ways I wasn't expecting, if that makes sense? I appreciate him not trying to recapture the forever story's magic, instead stretching his legs and trying out different musical influences on some tracks. I think by "disappointed", I just mean that I wish this album was more consistent quality-wise. Also by "Not giving it his all" I was referring to the tracks where the features feel like they do a lot of heavy lifting, and JID is less present than I was expecting."
On Armand Hammer - Race Music
"@Phiroman I know they've collaborated before, but this is one of the first times they've come together to make an entire project with a shared vision. Because of this, there are ways they bounce off each other that would be refined over time. Their rapping abilities and writing are still really impressive."
