I feel like the vocals get drowned out a bit by the production on this song, which is a shame, because they're really good. Other than that, I still like the electronic focus this song has
Pretty unique sounding, I love the sort of jittery vocal production, it works well with electronic sound.
An improvement on their sound from "BOY ANONYMOUS", but I still feel like there's room to grow here for the duo.
Renegades is easily the weakest RATM album. The fact that it's an album of covers I feel like doesn't work on a fundamental scale, since they're known for their writing and their authenticity, both of which are greatly diminished here. Not only that, but a decade on from their debut, I feel like that RATM are starting to show their age, with every other album they've released before, I feel like they would continue to push themselves and their sound. Here, I feel like they are doing something ... read more
The way I see the difference between the two is: Drake is trying to make a diss track, and Kendrick is trying to make a great song that just so happens to also be a diss track.
The mix of bedroom pop and screamo doesn't work at all for me, it just sounds like a mess.
This album works as an introduction to Kevin Abstract/Brockhampton as a whole, and as a first impression, I'm impressed. The writing here feels very open, honest and vulnerable, especially on songs like "Corpus Christi". The production, for the most part, sounds, great, and manages to paint a pretty atmosphere. My main issue with this album is the auto-tune can be hit and miss for me, also, I'm not crazy about all the vocal styles Kevin Abstract attempts here.
An interesting Outsider House album, while it's certainly unique, and has a number of notable elements, it sadly doesn't translate into an album that's all that enjoyable. I still respect it for what it's trying to do though.
This album didn't hook me like their first two did, it just felt less interesting and ambitious than those albums. With the exception of the last song, no song felt like it reached the same level that RTJ1 and 2 did. Not that this is a bad album, just a step down from their other works, I hope that RTJ4 is better.
A really great singer-songwriter album, that 12 minute song is incredible. I love the way more experimental aspects are mixed in with more traditional folk/singer-songwriter music, it gives this album a really unique feel. Plus this guy has a great voice, my issue with this album is that I didn't care much for the writing, it didn't impress me as much as other parts of this album did.
Really disappointing, this album feels like generic house music with a thin layer of funk added onto it. None of these songs sound bad on their own, but when it's nearly an hour of the same thing over and over again, it gets tiring.
The issue I had with "Knocknarea" I also have with this project, it's that it's too short, I would love to see what these guys could do if they took the time to make something that truly gives all of the ideas that are presented here the room to breathe that they deserve. I'd rather these guys release an incredible album every 2-3 years, than just a great EP every year. That being said, this EP is still really good, and a great highlight in modern British punk rock, I'm excited to see ... read more
Another great single from Saba and No I.D., really looking forward to the album. I really love the variety these songs have given so far, both from No I.D.'s production and Saba's rapping ability. This song has a more soulful touch than the others, thanks to the features here, which equally do a great job, and remind me a bit of Noname's "Telefone". Overall excited for the direction that Saba is heading with these recent songs.
This album sounds absolutely glorious, with an assortment of different styles at play here, all working together to create an incredible album that I feel like will only get better as I listen to it more. I suppose my only issue with this album is that the bombardment of sound can be a bit over-bearing at first, although, as I said, this will probably become less of a problem the more I listen to this album.
This being essentially a collection of demos, it's hard to judge this album on the same level as their other albums. That being said, this is still a fantastic album, it retains their signature sound and the haunting atmosphere that is present on many of their other projects. Overall, I do think this is a bit weaker than their other stuff, but that's really down to this being filled with demos/alternate mixes.
2nd listen (12/10/24): 85 --> 92
Really grew on me, Some of the tracks ... read more
