Thanks @thatweird for sending me your EP!
There are definitely some interesting concepts here, but there just isn't enough for me to really grab onto here. Some of the stuff here is still quite pretty.
Thank you @kalos4l for sending me your EP!
I personally thought that the more rock orientated tracks worked for me more than the ambient ones. This is overall just a really well made ep, though I did think it ended a little abruptly.
So it is actually that good. I can't remember the last time I was actually speechless after listening to an album, I will have to revisit this in the morning.
Unsurprisingly, the production on this album is phenomenal, but I still think Freddie Gibbs' music has yet to properly click with me in the way it has for so many others. It's a very consistent album, Freddie doesn't really switch it up at all, which is great if you're a fan of his style, but for me, the album became a little monotonous by the end. It's not a bad album overall, but I wish I liked Freddie Gibbs' style more.
Have not listened to Jim Legxacy before this, but he really feels like a breath of fresh air in British rap music. Not that there aren't other great British rappers, but with this album, he's bringing something new to the table through his combinations of genres. His singing here is just as good as the rapping, the production is really good, and shows the potential that a lot of styles of UK rap have. I also love how honest this album sounds, it really sounds like he's just ... read more
Such a fascinating combination of genres that feel decades ahead of their time. The sound collage elements provide a unique backdrop for the jazz playing, which is almost equally as wild. The paticular politics of the album and the themes explored feel a lot more direct and specific. For example the choral and spoken word samples are used to convey ideas of war, but in a way that puts it on an almost biblical scale. By the end of the album, all you can hear is the burning embers of something ... read more
A lot of different ideas here that sometimes come together to make something great, but also often come off as annoying.
There's such a unique atmosphere with a lot of the music here with the low-key, Radio Amor-style electronic ambience, and all the different musical styles this album takes influence from. The spoken word portions and other samples can feel a little out of place at first, but after a while you realise how well they fit in and compliment everything else. Also the last two tracks literally feel like the musical embodiment of peace.
Something about this style of super bitcrushed vaporwave just hits the spot for me, by far my favourite thing I've heard from Flyby Uniform.
Some of the most dynamic and downright fun to listen to jazz I've heard in a while
If you're expecting another album like Chromakopia, Igor, or even CMIYGL, then you're probably going to be dissapointed by this album. This is probably the least concept hevay album of his catalogue far, the focus is pretty much on straightforward bangers. It's an album to make you feel good, it's pretty well reflected by the cover art, it's exaggerrated, and almost cartoonish, but there's still something so human about it. I think the title "Don't Tap ... read more
It's a brisk little project that doesn't try anything crazy, the production and rapping are both decent. I was also reminded of Saba's music at times.
I really love how creepy a lot of the music sounds here, the combination of neoclassical darkwave and a lot of experimental electronic elements give this album a nightmarish quality. I thought the singing went really well with everything else, it's incredibly soft and high pitched, but it contrasts well with how dark the production can be at times.
Thanks @Block_Idk for the recommendation!
I really like the focus on ambience this album has, it makes the more bombastic tracks, like "Surreal" hit a lot harder. On top of that, this is just a really pleasant listen, the guitar playing is really nice to listen to, and the electronic elements compliment them really well.
A bizarre and incredibly unique take on Welsh and Celtic folk music. It has this ambient, almost deconstructed quality to it with the way songs are structred. Some are more straightforward traditional folk instruemntation, while others are much more experimental. I was reminded of ØXN's "CYRM" multiple times with the very large and forboding feel that a lot of msuic here had, and how it sounded like a modern interpretation of a lot of old musical ideas. That being said, I ... read more
It's a really pretty album, Asha Puthli has a phenomenal singing voice, and the instrumentation is really light on the ears and has this feeling of elegance. The choral elements, along with the singing reminded me of some of Minnie Riperton's work.
Thank you @Astroma for sending me your new mixtape (and movie)!
Really appreciate the change in style here, it feels like a single 30+ minute song with different parts to it. The production, being a complete step away from hip hop, is a lot more experimental, and a lot more ambient focused. I think all of the samples you used work really well and are distorted to create this really somber atmosphere. I also really like how well the movie reflects the msuic, it makes use of a lot of abstract ... read more
The singer sounds exactly like Björk (and also kinda looks like her), but that isn't really a complaint bc Björk is awesome, and so is this EP. It's a really ethereal, almost psychedelic listen, using a lot of folk influences, but also infusing them with some new age sounds. I definitely am looking forward to anything she releases in the future, because this is some of the best music to come out last year. It's only 4 tracks, but there are so many ideas packed into here ... read more
