Eminem - Revival
94

When i graduated from high school my parents offered to buy me a holiday abroad. I declined and asked for a copy of "Revival" instead. Somehow it all makes sense: Years of rough studies and training behind me, I was now ready to embrace the real thing. When I got the album I spent several days avoiding the enormousness of it all. At some point I did listen to it and still remember the feeling I got: The world would never be the same again, the naive childhood days of pre-revival era ... read more

it is a crime that this album isn't brought up more often in music communities. this is one of the best paced records i've ever heard.

from a strictly structural standpoint, this album really isn't that complicated compared to a lot of other hip hop albums; all of the songs are basically just a beat with guru rapping over it with the same flow throughout the entire song until it ends, with maybe a skit at the beginning or a feature or so. this pretty much goes on over and over ... read more

Eminem - Encore

i think im actually going deaf what the fuck? this is...not bad? honestly the run from track 7-14 is such a fucking trainwreck it actually is one of the saving graces of the album. if it weren't for that run then it probably would be a pretty subpar and kinda mediocre album, but holy fuck, some of the lines on the album are so bad that it becomes extremely entertaining which i feel like is simultaneously what the album was and wasn't trying to achieve. it's so funny that ... read more

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU

a neat little project but there isn't really much to say about it. it's a fun thing to turn your brain off to and just vibe with while occasionally getting pumped up whenever a feature pops in or something. i do think it should've been like 15 minutes shorter but overall it's a solid album to come back to whenever you're bored

fav tracks: like that, type shit, ice attack, cinderella, fried (she a vibe)
least fav: gta (san andreas is my favorite game oat though)

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
85

online music nerd community fooled me, this is great. lots of variety in the tracklist and i don't think there's any bad songs (besides the skits), just some that are less great than others.

i think the best way to experience this is to think of it as a "brainbombs - obey" type album that you're supposed to laugh with/at during the bad, bad lines and an actually more serious album during the good parts, because for me some of these lines are actually funny as fuck when ... read more

Dr. Dre - 2001

honestly, people's complaints about this album being bloated don't apply to me at all. in fact, i actually think that it feels way, way shorter than most albums that i've listened to despite clocking at one hour. it's an amazing album, hits from start to finish (apart from fuck you) and even the lesser-than-great-but-still-good songs have great beats. also, i really like how dre isn't the only rapper here and has a billion different features throughout the tracklist (he doesn't even rap in some ... read more

Michael Gira - Drainland

a very interesting exploration of the human psyche

if i had to describe the sound of this album, it's like if angels of light was done in the style of the great annihilator with the lyrics feeling like the ones from no-wave era swans but far, far more structured and poetical. some lyrics on here are very self deprecating and bleak. hell, in fact, i'm pretty sure some of the songs on the album were based off of gira's book titled the consumer, which includes genuinely some of the most fucked up ... read more

criminally, criminally, underrated album, it might actually be top 5 pink floyd for me. to me, this album really doesn't feel like "the wall b-sides" at all, since it really grows its own identity by the end of it. one highlight of this album imo are the lyrics. sure, some of them kinda fall flat in some areas, but the ones that do hit hit really hard. "in the corner of some foreign field, the gunner sleeps tonight", "ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we ... read more

swans returns with a nice little 44 minute long album, probably one of their shortest non-no wave albums tbh.

this album feels much more like an angels of light album than a swans one, and almost like a proto-glowing man in a way. it's much less ambitious than other swans albums before and after and it's got this nice comfy acoustic feel to it, it also feels like one of their much more tamer releases, maybe even beating out their neofolk albums in terms of the lack of heaviness. also holy ... read more
