Probably his most fun and replay-able album, with a very distinct west coast sound. A large range of musical styles that reminds me of DAMN, as well as incredible flow as always. He’s building on the sounds and beats of his previous diss tracks and snippets to make one of the more memorable sounding album. There’s no clear concept at least from what I’ve heard, more like a mix of different themes which is unique compared to all his albums before. This makes for some amazing ... read more
A great debut album with a very mature and real concept tackling the issues that persists in Kendrick’s hometown. The songs had a great production and felt quite experimental for the time, as well as great lyrical flow. This LP showcased the potential Kendrick had to create even more cohesive and dynamic projects in the future.

An album made for the mainstream yet has a unique concept and very strong production. With this being his most popular album, it's polarization is justified as there's many times where it feels uncohesive. Yet, the switch between ideas and messages in his songs is what makes the storytelling amazing as Kendrick doesn't truly know whether he's Damned to this artist life. Good vs evil, Love vs. hate, the deadly sins, and many more concepts are explored.

Two years after this album's release, and the people saying this album is bad are still straight up wrong. Fantastic production with an riveting story of Kendrick's journey as an artist and a human being. There's only a few straight up bangers such as N95, Mr. Morale, and Die Hard, but that doesn't mean his songs are boring. Songs like Count Me Out, Rich Spirit, and Father Time are fantastic exploration songs with amazing beats and lyrics.

My favorite album of all time: a cohesive story, meaningful lyrics about K.Dot's childhood and upbringing, and a diverse set of beats that hold up more than a decade later. There's a little something for everyone whether it's upbeat hard hitting tracks like maad city and Swimming Pools or the vibey melancholic tracks like Sing About Me Im Dying of Thrist or The Art of Peer Pressure. A true masterclass in storytelling and production.
