EDIT: IT’S GROWING ON ME A LOT, TAKE THIS REVIEW WITH A GRAIN OF SALT
Yikes, this was a disappointment.
This feels like the band cashing in. BUZZCUT was such a wild and phenomenal single, with so much chaos and energy, and this just feels extremely damp, artificial, and lukewarm. It gives off the same energy as the 2nd half of GINGER to me, being stale and forgettable. The track has a whistle type beat, and with Shawn Mendes and Rocky on here, COUNT ON ME feels like they are trying to make a radio hit, and failing. It feels uninspired, even if it did start to get better with multiple listens. It’s like a SUGAR 2 without any of the personality the band had on previous tracks. Kevin did say that these types of songs took up half the album and, man, I hope not all of them are this lazy. I can see why some hate this to an extremely large degree, even if I still like it.
