On their last two albums before this one, while they still had some misses, they were able to put their amazing potential to work to make a fully enjoyable album, with more bangers than duds, for the most part. On their first record, for example, they had incredible highlights, but that potential didn't translate into a full record for me.
As much as I didn't really LOVE any of their albums and didn't like the first two, I liked the band a lot anyway, just because I respected them a lot and I LOVED some certain songs.
Now, going into ".5: The Grey Chapter", Slipknot, unfortunately, takes the more commercial side of their last two albums and makes an unmemorable bland record. Tracks like Killpop or the intro track are perfect examples of that.
Not to mention, almost every song is at least 4 minutes long up to 6, which is a crazy length for so many mediocre songs.
Going back into the Slipknot album analogy, this record still has highlights, but just doesn't work as a full album package, due to the number of filler tracks compared to the good ones.
