However, truly don't think they are capable of making a good full record. The aggressive nu metal sound gets really tiresome by the end, especially on this album. It's an hour and 6 minutes of every track sounding the same and it gets really grating on the ears. Not to mention the fact that a lot of these tracks are extremely dull and forgettable, with no remarkable riffs and Corey is pretty much doing the same scream-rap thing over and over again.
For me, just having some momentum and energy isn't enough, that's easy as fuck to do. If the songs are not memorable, I don't care how aggressive the music is.
I wasn't a fan of the self-titled record, but at least it had some really impressive standouts, while this project I find to be just overly extremely dull and even more forgettable.
For example, the tracks "Skin Ticket" and "New Abortion" going right after each other, sound almost identical. The same guitars, the same vocals. Like it's the same track and not a good track at that. Also, the last track "Iowa" has NO BUSINESS being 15 minutes long.
Also, the fast nu metal kicks sound awful on here. Like the constant pattern on kicks that sound just super cheap and dry.
So yeah, I absolutely love some Slipknot songs, but I just can't get into their albums, and unfortunately, unlike the self-titled project, Iowa doesn't even have those amazing stand-out tracks, which is a shame.
