Sampha's Process is so, so gorgeous. The somber, passionate, and vulnerable lyricism is truly something to behold. Though, the writing on this album wouldn't be nearly as poignant if it weren't for this project's rich production and Sampha's richer vocals putting it across. Process is about the grieving process and finding beauty in life despite death's inevitability, and all of that is revealed to you by just the way it sounds. The smooth, buttery texture of both Sampha's voice and the genre-spanning production puts you directly into the man's shoes, and while grief can often be an entirely saddening subject, in the shoes of Sampha, grief is bittersweet remembrance. It's reflection and gratitude. It's strangely beautiful, just like this album. Well, I wouldn't say it's strange that I find this project beautiful. On a technical level, it IS stunning. It's more so that I don't find it entirely sad. If anything, it gave me a sense of peace. Sure, there was maybe one track I wasn't huge on, but for almost the entire duration of Process, it's a consistently incredible listen. To think that this album was a debut... Mind blowing...
