Has one artist ever ruined another's album release like Pusha ruined Drake's? In hindsight, it's the funniest crash landing of an album drop of all time. God's Plan and Nice For What had blown the fuck up, the videos were getting big play, Drake was the generous woman's man with a heart of gold, everyone was ready to join in on the Drake hype train.. except, of course, one Mr. Terrence LeVarr Thompson, who effectively baited Duppy Freestyle out of Drake with his bars on Infrared. Once Drake crossed the line and talked about Push's wife.. well, we know how the story goes from there. Simply put, The Story Of Adidon completely kneecapped all and any Drake hype.
So what did the Drake camp do? With everyone in hip hop reeling over these apparently not-so-baseless accusations, Drake reworks the majority of his album in an attempt to salvage a sense of response to Push, especially on March 14. The resulted reworking provided an album so bland, samey, and weak, I don't think I even gave it a re-listen after the first go-through. If this was the album Pusha T was trying to save me from, I gotta say - thanks, Push! Although I'm sure I'd have a similar level of boredom with this record with or without your very nice words about Drake's Carrot Top-looking son.
