Never played Hotline Miami but I imagine this is what the soundtrack would be like
Not really for me, interesting vision and hearing what Greg Anderson had to say about it afterwards was quite eye opening
The black sheep of the Slipknot discography - assuming you listen to the fans opinions on this album - is surprisingly still a really great album. A lot more aggressive than Vol 3. and I feel that they have really honed that softer sound that they had utilized on that album too. Banger intro track and it keeps going all the way up to Vendetta - and then the Butcher's Hook happened. This is one of my least favourite songs they've done and it's because of the weak verse and and the pretty awful ... read more
This album swaps aggression for more melodic songs - which isn't a bad thing, if done right. This album does it mostly well but, I don't know why but I feel like the more Stone Sour-ish approach to this album is what makes it just not click as much for me compared to the past two albums and even AHIG. Still, some of Slipknot's best songs are on here - Duality, Blister Exists, Before I Forget and Vermillion.
Extreme bias here, as it was the first album I ever bought with my own money so have a lot fond memories of this album, but this is by far the best Slipknot album. The aggression is turned up even more here than on the debut - (515) into People = Shit is one of the best intro tracks as it really lets you know what you're getting into - high aggression with some really catchy hooks. Even the 15 minute closer is a great metal / ambient piece - something that I actually wasn't the biggest fan of ... read more
Back in high school I'd listen to this album while playing skate. on my Xbox 360, lots of nostalgia for it in that regard. As of 2023, nearly 25 years after its release, it still goes so fucking hard. This is the kind of shit you'd put on in one of those wreck rooms for people to just smash stuff up
Hasn't aged amazingly in my opinion, still great but the second half falters a bit more than the first.
Pure unadulterated aggression - to the point where it might be a bit too aggressive for some but if you can handle it you are in for one hell of a time
I remember Kerrang giving this album five K's back when this released - I was already a massive fan so was really excited to hear it, plus Your Betrayal was the leading single off it too so I had really high hopes. It's not perfect, but there are still some really good songs here, Your Betrayal, as previously mentioned, Alone, Dignity and Begging for Mercy are the standouts here. Not so keen on the title track Fever, Breaking Out, Breaking Down or Pretty On The Outside though.
Just now finding out that Benji Webbe from Skindred is on Take It Out On Me - still really quite like this album, even if it's not as good as The Poison.
Highlights are Hearts Burst into Fire, Waking the Demon, Deliver Us From Evil, Say Goodnight and End of Days
(i've got a lot of nostalgia for Deliver Us From Evil and vividly remember playing that song through the No Mercy campaign in Left 4 Dead - fucking great times)
Bit of a let down unfortunately, cos this has some really high quality tunes but then has quite a bit of filler that I don't particularly care for - Garden of Thorns, Year of the Harvest and Man on Fire are still in my daily rotation to this day - shame a lot of the album is quite forgettable, not bad though
Bit short for my liking but all the tracks here are really solid - definitely prefer this over Runes
First heard of these guys when they supported Architects on their UK tour some time ago - went back and listened to this album and their first one too. Really amazing bit of UK Metalcore, highlights would be Royal Blood, The Maiden, Bitemarks, Sceptres and Message to a King. Love this!
