Cinematic Classical is a style defined by it being played with a large symphonic orchestra, it is rooted in Western Classical and late Romanticism, it takes inspiration from dramatist, large orchestra, use of leitmotif, and emotiveness of the genre.
I really fail to see how an Ambient album like the Minecraft Soundtrack would fall under this definition, there is not any orchestral elements in the slightest.
Also I still think that the format of an album shouldn’t decide what genre it falls under.
For the composer thing, I’ve spoken to Rob and what I said was confirmed, although there are ideas for reworking how the composer credit is used since it seems to confuse a lot of people.
What Modern Classical is a subgenre of wasn't the point of that message. It is under that because it has roots in Western classical, particularly late Romanticism.
Anyway, I do not think you should blindly vote for a certain genre on a bunch of albums you haven't heard, since it's led to thousands of soundtracks incorrectly being listed as cinematic classical, even when in countless cases it's not even remotely close to it.
I'm not sure how you consider the Minecraft soundtrack Cinematic Classical. It does have some classical elements through Impressionism, but that is a completely separate thing from Cinematic Classical. I'd go as far as to say there isn't even a single element of Cinematic Classical on that soundtrack. For the FFVIII soundtrack, which does have some Classical elements, an Orchestra & Cinematic Classical secondary I find to be way more accurate than a Cinematic Classical primary
I'm not really sure what you mean. Cinematic Classical is a subgenre of Western Classical which is a subgenre of Classical, none of those three genres would make any sense on something like a hip hop soundtrack that contains no classical elements. The format of a release should not decide the genre used, also you seem to vote it on so many soundtracks that I find it impossible you were able to listen to them all, making a lot of the votes make even less sense to me, could you further explain your thought process?
Also, composers should only be used for actual compositions, I get something like the Silent Hill soundtrack may have one as a credit, but it isn't how that credit is used on the site.
Quick question, is there a reason you vote "Cinematic Classical" on so many soundtracks? Like I see you vote it a lot on soundtracks that are rock or hip-hop that contain no classical elements. Just wondering what makes you vote for that on them.
