BEST ALBUMS OF 2019

These are the best records released in 2019 that I've heard.

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
1.
90
This is the most off-the wall, disturbing and freakishly weird musical experience I've heard in recent memory, and there is undoubtedly genius behind the madness of this nightmare inducing, psychotic record.
MONO - Nowhere Now Here
2.
90
Where "Nowhere Now Here" really shines is by the subtle way it builds intensity, through dark and gloomy textures and sounds that seem to have come from utter hopelessness. The Japanese band came through with a cinematic, thought provoking and transcendent post-rock album, in which it's masterful execution will keep me returning to re-experience the dread and emotions this LP presents.
Solange - When I Get Home
3.
90
Magical. Dreamy. Electric. Exotic. Solange's 4th studio album features some of the most beautiful production I've heard all year and pulls of some of the most unlikely and unexpected collaborations in music.
Dave - Psychodrama
4.
80
It's hard to believe that Dave was only 19 years old when making "Psychodrama", an album so emotional and mature & filled with incredible songwriting and lyricism and what I feel is destined to become a "classic" in the UK hip-hop scene.
Malibu Ken - Malibu Ken
5.
80
Aesop Rock and TOBACCO team up under the pseudonym Malibu Ken to release an incredibly fun and engaging electronic hip-hop tape. This 10 track album is catchy, blends together very well and has bars upon bars of clever lyricism and wordplay making it weirdly cryptic and encourages multiple listens to decipher.
Foals - Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost (Part 1)
6.
80
This firework of a record is essentially a guide for rock bands how to make songs for a live setting. Pretty straight to the point, incredibly catchy, easy to listen to and groovy beyond belief: Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost (Part 1) is a banger and also a special moment in Foals' discography.
James Blake - Assume Form
7.
80
Not only is "Assume Form" James Blake's most consistent album yet, it's also the best relationship themed album I've heard in recent memory. It's soothing, incredibly dreamy, ethereal, emotional, and hauntingly beautiful. The album has an outstanding flow and has additional themes of male vulnerability and depression: which it handles very maturely. If you're looking for an album to remind you of a loved one -- look no further!
The Twilight Sad - It Won/T Be Like This All the Time
8.
80
It took me exactly 3 listens to realize, that The Twilight Sad had just released an absolute banger of a record. "IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME" is filled with electrifying post-punk/indie rock songs which are very well made, completely infectious and have the tendency to sound better with every listen!
We Are Impala - Visions
9.
80
A collection of colorful and emotional rock songs with a heavy psychedelic core, We Are Impala's sophomore album "Visions" is a cosmic burst of energy that was too short for it's own good.
Angelo De Augustine - Tomb
10.
80
This melancholy acoustic record is filled with well flushed out songs, and is an exemplary Indie Folk record when it comes to songwriting. De Augustine's emotional storytelling and atmospheric guitar playing make this a very pleasant and rewarding listen.
