At times, Posty's new style seems to lend itself to impressive, quality tracks: highlights on 'AUSTIN' including 'Something Real' and 'Overdrive' are genuinely superb, and provide moments that suggest the NY artist suits this sound. 'Green Thumb', a somewhat accepting lamentation of a lost love, is another high point as the artist expresses his feelings through a well-executed metaphor of gardening. However, these moments are often fleeting and end up mixed in with other moments that are much less impressive, evident particularly throughout the cringe-worthy 'Novocandy', 'Too Cool To Die' and 'Speedometer'. As good as it is at its best, overall the album leaves a lasting impression that indie pop should be a one-time experiment for Austin Post - if he continues with the high-pitched whine employed on many of these songs then it has a high chance of becoming annoying very quickly
