so i listened to Animals on the way to work today and while working i'm listening to this (as much as i can work with AOTY open) and man oh man it's like the lite version of that to me. call me a pleb, i dare you. y'all know how Indianapolis feels like Chicago-lite? this is it. this album is Indianapolis. truckers and all.
that being said i'm glad i listened to this.
1. Close to the Edge - 4.5
this album's quality is entirely dependent on how you listen to it.
not really but i like bananas.
my brain is mush why is this so long.
not nearly as memorable as Oracular Spectacular or Little Dark Age, but still a pretty solid release, that critic score is absolutely WHACK dude like i wanna smack a bitch or something.
2. Song for Dan Treacy - 4.0
6. Siberian Breaks - 4.5
there's a strain in me that despises loving the norm. a portion of me that has to justify why i would hate something that is "mainstream" or to like something that is terribly underground. i've tried my best over the years to try and draw myself away from that, and while i am truly trying to identify my subjectivity and objectivity a bit more, there is still plenty to work on. it tends to be why i hold off on listening to albums with a cult following to them. i either will have the ... read more
this album is the equivalent of falling down towards the sky. no that's not a typo. trust me, i'm not tripping. please. don't delete my accounT DAD I NEED IT.
i understand the love.
1. Vinum Sabbathi - 4.5
3. Weird Tales - 5.0
7. We Hate You - 4.0
was very excited to listen to this after being introduced to Loved earlier this year, like that shit was RELENTLESS and there were moments where i thought i developed a second piss slit from how hard it went.
this one is a bit toned down in comparison, but man oh MAN does this still hit (except for track 7 what in the fuck happened to the high end on the mix).
3. The Tie - 4.5
4. But They Respect My Tactics - 4.0
6. Lost Grip - 4.0
you'd think with the 2019 release that came out this would have a bit more traction but alas we truly live in a society where artists come and go and Olive Garden's soup gets less and less and Nintendo no longer supports the Wii.
this is no better and no worse than the last one.
2. Metal Firecracker - 4.5
7. Fairest of the Seasons - 4.0
on today's episode of "sammers disagrees with Pitchfork once again"...
...that's not fair to say. i disagree with a lot of critics. Pitchfork, Sputnik, the flannel man, and then i also agree with them sometimes too. but you could never convince me in a MILLION years that this is Beth Orton's best work. hell, i'm not even sure if this is in the top half. i just sit here and listen to, um, geez, where would i listen to this, a Tuesday Morning where they are VERY eclectic.
this album is certainly daring and original, i can give it that.
i thiiiink this was maybe, gosh, idk, some years ago with Dave from Boyinaband uploaded a video after a year long sabbatical and there was a point where he said "i'm good at tons of things but not great at any one of them" and that's what listening to this from front to back feels like.
one of my old friends would really enjoy this album but God forbid i could guess who it would be.
1. Cosplay / Twin Cities - 4.0
4. ... read more
i'm preeeetty sure i listened to Blush? i recognize the album art and i'm sure i saw it on some Bandcamp year end list except i'm too lazy to actually check.
anyways Uma Thurman did a really good job in Pulp Fiction, i wanna watch more movies with Uma Thurman in it
i can't wait for her 2024 album to come out so i can write the EXACT SAME REVIEW.
no joke this is best Death Cab album in the past ten years.
1. I Don't Know How I Survive - 4.5
5. Here to Forever - 4.0
8. I Miss Strangers - 4.0
you'd think with how big Sister Cities was that this would be a lot more popular.
i'm glad it's not
holy smokes talk about a change of form.
Pet Town was so cute and had so much charm with is lo-fi presence and this is a TOTAL change of pace. i don't think it's as classic. the other one is SO CUTE and this one kinda is just there idk. go back to pet town that one is preeeeetty good.
3. Long Time - 4.0
"i don't need saving but you saved me anyway"
why does this work so well, why does this feel so classic.
this album reminded me how much i love emo. and how much i miss the Hotelier. this is great. wow.
2. Trying - 5.0
3. Pines - 4.5
6. Opposite Shores - 5.0
9. It's What It Is - 5.0 & SOTY
idk if any of y'all have heard of Emily Reo but she has a very distinct songwriting style, the melodies are really unconventional at points and sometimes don't fit over the instrumental that great but there's SOMETHING to be appreciated.
this is the alt rock Emily Reo.
ooey gooey goo means that i love you
as far as electropop goes it's GOOD but if some of these songs weren't so short they could be even BETTER but alas we truly live in a TikTok society where these high school seniors have the attention span of my cat when she runs around my room. seriously, my cat has to explore my room once a day like it's the first time.
FLETCHER deserves better than what UMG is making them do.
1. Sting - 5.0
12. I Love You, Bitch - 4.0
file this one under "i'm very happy i listened to it once but really don't plan to listen to this ever again". also madison is a cool singer and i would get coffee for them as an Uber Eats driver.
1. All I've Ever Known - 4.0
4. Sunshine Over The Counter - 5.0
7. In From Japan - 4.0
not me adding this to the website to love the fuck out of it.
post-vaporwave is now a genre and it tastes like the center of a cinnamon roll :]
1. Groot in Belgie - 5.0
3. Daydream - 4.5
5. Don't Go - 5.0
8. Faded Love - 5.0 & SOTY
