Barebones and atmospheric, Lorde offers us a deeply moving, introspective album that manages to capture the zeitgeist surrounding femininity and vulnerability that always feels personal and never pandering like an album like this could easily fall into, veering away from relatable lyrics that can be posted as Tiktok slideshows (even though that kinda did happen, but they had to misunderstand the lyrics to do it so it's fine) in favour of a genuine outpouring of fear and emotion. Gonna start leaving more short reviews here. Obviously Glover’s best, dreamy, ethereal and lavishly produced, an album I find myself coming back to too much to ignore, songs like Redbone and Boogieman are gorgeously groovy and the emotional powerhouses like Me and Your Mama and Baby Boy hit so well. The way the album is laid out is a bit jumpy personally, I think there’s a bit of whiplash between songs that could be easily fixed, but I actually like California so.
Viva Las Vengeance is the widely loathed final venture from Brendon Urie under the Panic! At The Disco name, usually considered by the fans to be the worst album the 'band' has ever put out. I put band in quotation marks as, by this point, Panic! had been Brendon Urie's glorified solo project for a good half a decade, clinging onto the name for the guaranteed listeners out of some fear of being less popular if he were to fully go solo.
