I can’t really compare this to anything in the electronic and drum & bass genre, since I don’t really listen to that genre, but if anything, I think The Signal was a really good introduction! When making a project, if you wanna appeal to me, you don’t have to go all out and create something super lyrical or deep or anything. All you need is a good vibe, and what Eli does on this record is form a very spacey atmosphere, full of twisting and turning droning synths and pounding drums, that constantly evolve into another song entirely, and I can’t help but just get absolutely caught up in. It sounds like the perfect mix of minimal and maximal music (like the alliteration there?) ending up in a perfect, relaxing middle ground. I swear, if this record was released a year ago I would absolutely be using this as homework music. And it’s a shame I don’t have my LED’s anymore, otherwise I could have just turned this record on while chilling in bed with only the blue LED’s around my room on. Now THAT’s a vibe.
