Sounds like some guy decided to have a conversation with bcnr, black midi and scott walker with alt-j playing in his right ear to finish off the last part to his 75% conceived crack opera and I am completely here for it. The influences sound like minor tweaks and additions to a very naturally batshit insane sound. I be up charging my worm to this shit.

A bit corrosive to start off with with some very annoying post-self-titled era Say Anythingisms but as the tracklist goes on and Max starts adding a bit more nuance into the songs rather than awkwardly half-screeching, the album becomes a bit more genuine and is the most personal album Say Anything has written since Is A Real Boy even if a few of the songs feel like a not as good take on Yellow Slash Red Cat. This band's track record with me is fucking sad LMAO. They were what got me and my horrible manipulative ex talking and then my friend became a twenty one pilots fan and would bring them into every single fucking conversation and talk about their music like how Marvel fans talk about the movies. Didn't help that he was also THAT kind of Marvel fan.

The Week Never Starts Around Here is fucking bleak. This reminds me a LOT of Taking Back Sunday and I'm seriously thinking this album was an inspiration for TBS - these vocals are literally just WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH x50 over some pretty cool but also stiff riffing with somewhat flat but also neat production - which both works to make it sound very raw and expressive but also incredibly 2-dimensional at the same time.

Crazy how this is way better than the debut in most ways especially since it feels so raw and Shaun Morgan doesn't sound bored out of his mind here - there even are some straight up downtempo songs on here that aren't half bad and Tied My Hands might be the best song this band ever released.
