I've been extremely excited for this album to come out. Every single was so damn great, and this didn't disappoint.
Julien Baker is, honestly, someone that i have mever listened to before this album has released, and the first time i've heard her was probably through "Hardline" and the other promotional singles leading up to this release. Time really passed so fast, it feels like yesterday when i've seen it getting announced for 26th and. Sheesh. My birthday was yesterday and now i'm 18. Life really goes fast.
Anyways, back on track, Julien's new record, "Little Oblivious", is a really suave, emotional & personal roadtrip of travel songs and stories about drug addiction, depression and suicidal thoughts, as she found a way to cope with it through her beautifully performed music. The clever writing and thundering production mixes up to create a really heartfelt experience that touches her personal thoughts and sadness in a lanner that can only be compared to records like Punisher.
This albums is simply just good. Her vocals are hauntingly beautiful. Her lyrics are amazingly personal & unintentionally relatable. And her production is dope. It focuses on the lyrics, this focus instantly putting you in her shoes, especially for those that have experienced this kind of situations. Because i did and i still do sometimes, it hit sme harder in certain aspects.
This record is also hella accessible. It really doesn't try to do some crazy shit whatsoever. All it does for you is trying to talk to you. To give you a perspective of the things the singer had gone through in her life and how she eventually conquered her way out of that dark path. It almost feels like she speaks to you. And that just makes it so much better then other releases of this year. It's the first album that actually made me feel something, outside of happiness. That can surely be a good thing AND a bad one, for some. Since not everyone likes listening to depressing ass shit. But that little peep of hope kinda fixes that.
Either way, this is an amazingly written project and i'm surely looking forward for anything that she will release in the future. You find new good artists everyday. Huh.
