Nice pants.
The beggining of the SATURATION trilogy is also the band's debut studio album and a good one at that. It has exactly what their first mixtape lacked: better chemistry and much more fun. It isn't as weird as their first project. I'm gonna try a new format for my reviews now and i hope it looks clean af, wouldn't mind some feedback.
The first side of the album that i want to talk about are the pros of it and what makes it such an outstanding debut for the group. These are, for the most part, what i cna mainly talk about, since i can honestly not see any lows on it, except for maybe two-three mentions. Anyways, i'd like to begin with how much their sound improved on here.
Their sound evolution is significant when compared to how they were sounding on AAT. This features less slow singing and more chaotic elements, as well as more catchy hooks and vibes created with Kevin's or Joba's vocals, matching whatever the production is like. It is more accessible and weirder then their first effort, but equally experimental, keeping those two components in balance. They absolutely NAILED that. It's just as much pop as it is rap.
The verses have been clearly better here, AAT only having like 2-3 songs that were oriented in that area. On SAT we see a lot of track in which they are all just havin fun and rap after one another, each displaying their abilities to rhyme and be as interesting as possible through their lyrical prowess and witty lines (most of the tracks are like that, except for WASTE and a few others). I love that aspect of the album. It makes it so much more funner then AAT, as well as giving it more replayability. Dom is a complete MVP on this project, most of his verses being in the top best on the album. The themes also have a more delicate touch to them, usually consisting of either knowing yourself, self-improvement or society in general, the others just being straight up fun.
The production is probably one of the best aspects about this. It's either incredibly floaty or incredibly hard and they do justice to each and single one of the beats that they work with. I personally like the mellow side of the album more, just because of how vibey and beautiful it sounds, but tracks like HEAT are complete bangers, if it was to name one of those. The mellow / smooth tracks like GOLD, WASTE, SWIM, TRIP and MILK are probably going straight to my playlists, since it combines literally everything thay i usually listen to. Bearface sounds so good on the outro.
Most of the album is doing everything right and, really, there aren't many things wrong with it. I can only assume the SAT albums get better and better as the series goes on, which is a rare thing when it comes to sequels.
If there were any cons that i could mentions, then maybe i should just mention how some tracks aren't as good as others ig. The first half is great, but nowhere as good as the second half of the project, even if it is less serious and more fun then the latter segment. I thought 2PAC is strong, but much more forgettable then other tracks and same goes for Face i guess. Other then that, quite a
thrilling debut full of nice stuff and bangers.
I guess the new format probably works for other albums that aren't as good as this, because the pros outweight the cons by a mile, sk really i couldn't talk much on the cons at all. Fun album, issa vibe.
My GF Score: 80/100
She likes the mellower tracks as well so we both on the same vibe. 🦇🧛
