Westside Gunn - WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE
70

A big ol' mess. Some tracks are great, some are so unnecessary. Why did Gunn feel the need to get such a stacked feature list for an average project.

Chris Travis - Pizza and Codeine
84

I don't do drugs. No one should do drugs. But I see why the album is named that way.

Pusha T - DAYTONA
85

Everyone calls this a modern classic... They're right! One of the most consistent rappers of this generation, Pusha T, pairs up with Kanye, who entered his second wind around this time and create a very short but fantastic album. It's crazy how in every track at least one of the 2 kills it. Pusha T makes even the simpler beats work well, best shown on Come Back Baby, but then Kanye absolutely OBLITERATES songs like The Games We Play and Santeria. I think Infrared isn't anything ... read more

MIKE - MAY GOD BLESS YOUR HUSTLE
82

I wonder how it must feel for an artist for people to claim your best project, over all these years, is your very first one. At least that's the opinion I hear from most people. As for me, I don't think this is his best. I love the vulnerability and how abstract it is at times, but, in the least disrespectful way possible, MIKE has very similar verses in terms of content matter here, over beats I'm not crazy over. I also don't think the feature are up to par with MIKE's ... read more

Mick Jenkins - The Patience
85

Here's my proposal: switch the definition of UNDERRATED to this album right here. Some of these track ratings are so low I took it personally, and I'm not even a die-hard Mick Jenkins listener. The introspectiveness of this album, the beat selection, punchlines, feature list, EVERYTHING is so well executed. Amazing lyricism and albums don't get much more concise than this. 27 minutes, 11 songs, and not a single one is less than great for me. I will say though, Show & Tell and ... read more

Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
86

When LGSEO dropped, I figured I should listen to their older discography, which turned out to be a great decision. This is really a fun album. This is really the Pharrell era of production, with very little samples used and just creative beats. The chemistry between the two brothers is really evident, but I do think the features could be better.

Tha God Fahim & Mach-Hommy - Wide Berth
80

Imagine a mixture of life advice and boasting over beautiful instrumentals. The Shape of Slaughter, Sorbonne and Foto Synth are all fantastic tracks. The rest is all at least good. A quick listen that pays off.

Mach-Hommy - Fete Des Morts AKA Dia De Los Muertos
79

Look, I'm the first to love an abstract hip-hop project, but this one never clicked for me to the same level as other Mach-Hommy projects. Tracks 3, 7 and 8 are really good, love them, but the rest to me is just good, nothing crazy. Being so short, I recommend all of you to listen to this, you may like it more than me, I don't find it to be insane.

JAY-Z - Reasonable Doubt
87

I'll always be the one to never give bias to older projects. Yes they're the most influential. Yes they're ABSOLUTE classics. But I rate music based on how I FEEL about it RIGHT NOW, which yes, may be unfair to older projects, but you also have got to understand the limitations that came with projects of this age. That being said, Reasonable Doubt is a very luxurious-sounding album. it's extremely New York, and Jay-Z tells us about his experiences in life, in a teaching ... read more

Mach-Hommy - Bulletproof Luh
84

Mach-Hommy in his jazzy, love-centered bag. Amazing project, short and VERY sweet. Honey Roasted and Regina are top tier Mach songs and even the worse tracks here are all great. I am a bit annoyed that one of the best songs here, in be Safe, has like 1 minute of straight silence, why bro.

Mac Miller - Swimming
84

My life is too jolly to relate :(. I recognize how beautiful this album can be, I mean, 2009, Come Back To Earth and Small Worlds are some of my favourite songs of the 2010's and I absolutely love Mac Miller's career trajectory, it's a shame how soon he left us. But I repeat, I don't relate to this album how most people do.

Boldy James & Nicholas Craven - Fair Exchange No Robbery
85

Boldy James pairs up with a producer that perfectly fits his style, in Nicholas Craven and together they create an arguably top 3 Boldy James project, over the many he seems to release all the time. Being just 36 minutes, there really is not a single second wasted - it's all quality tracks. Straight & Tall is, in my opinion, Boldy James best ever song, so that's one hell of an opener. There are some worse tracks here for me, those being Six Toes and You Ain't No Menace, but ... read more

Earl Sweatshirt - SICK!
82

This was really a breath of fresh air at this point in Earl's discography. While it may feel a bit odd for someone like Earl Sweatshirt to switch to a heavily trap-influenced project, man does he kill it. It's not like he doesn't have pure abstract and beautiful songs here - Fire in The Hole, for example, is one of Earl's best songs. Visions is one of the most gorgeous beats I've heard, Tabula Rasa shows Earl and Armand Hammer duo spit pure poetry, Lye is such a neat ... read more

Mach-Hommy - #RICHAXXHAITIAN
89

Switching to a slightly more mainstream/accessible style, Mach-Hommy still keeps his core music themes and lyricism intact, making for one of he best albums of the 2020's so far. The rhyme-schemes, punchlines and entendres are insanity but every song feels easy to get into, so I'd argue this is the best Hommy project on first-listens only. This one barely had to grow on me, I knew how good it was from the get go. There are so many great tracks here, I love his choruses on songs like ... read more

Larry June & The Alchemist - The Great Escape
84

I'm finding the track and overall album reviews for this album so harsh. Obviously Larry June isn't gonna hit us with internal rhyme scheme filled triple entendre - the man talks about being rich and focusing on himself. Alchemist pairs very well with him, with one of the best beat selections for an album in the 2020s so far. Features all add to their songs, though I'm a bit disappointed with Action Bronson. Big Sean though, wow. I was not expecting him to have the best verse of ... read more

Travis Scott - UTOPIA
78

Saved 2023 mainstream rap with an album that is actually really good. It has some skips, but I don't consider myself the biggest of Travis fans. Some songs here are so experimental, which is what I love about the direction of this album, but he still kept his mainly trap focused aesthetic. It's an album people were quick to forget, but when it came out it was one of the most hype days of the decade. Looking back, it deserves lots of love, which I feel it has been losing over time. ... read more

A$AP Rocky - AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP
86

This album is one of those that didn't stick out to me at first, but as time goes on it gets better for me. In my opinion, this is A$AP Rocky's best album (Live.Love.A$AP still beats it). This is to this day his best mix of psychedelic atmosphere and high-level rapping. There are just 2 or 3 skips for me, and the rest is all great, and that's not mentioning classic songs here such as Holy Ghost and Jukebox Joints.

A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
84

Not as good as his previous mixtape, but this is still an amazing debut album. The deluxe tracks here are great, with one of my favourite ever songs, Ghetto Symphony, but even this version is still a great body work, with hip-hop classics in LVL and 1Train. There are skips here though, like Pain and I'm really not a big fan of some songs most people love like the title track.

MIKE - POMPEII // UTILITY
82

I've kinda changed my thoughts here. I still don't think this an album meant to be taken extremely serious, but man are these songs fun, even if they do sound pretty similar.

Kanye West - BULLY
71

Not great, but he's back. Excited to see what's next. Some tracks are pure peak Kanye nostalgia, whereas others are an unfinished mess.
