This is one of the most raw, cruel and honest outlooks on what depression can look like. The fact Earl Sweatshirt gathered the strength to not only record and upload this, but to demonstrate how he feels through 5 different parts, 2 of them being instrumentals, which give you glimmers of hope before being dismantled by a snap back to reality is such a great feat. This is a special body of work.
This might be the most underrated overrated mixtape of all time. You don't hear any talk about it in the mainstream, just like most of Gunn's catalog, however the Westside Gunn community seems to DIE for this project. I'm somewhere in the middle. A lot of the songs most people talk down on I actually like, but there aren't enough standout songs here for me. Lunchin, Gunnlib and Bautista, for example, are all great, but the highs here don't match up to Gunn's usual ... read more
This one took me a LONG time to appreciate. The first listen was so bad for me I had to stop the album halfway in. However, I really liked Tunnel Vision and 1080p. Having listened to these songs frequently in my playlists, I felt like I didn't do this album justice, so, little by little, I heard some songs and gave them time to grow on me (this also being after I'd gotten more experienced with drumless/abstract hip-hop, and Mach's catalog, in general). What a great decision that ... read more
This obviously isn't album of the year for me, but I'm very glad Baby Keem not only came back, but chose this trajectory for this chapter of his career. He's always been a talented artist, but he never seemed to get introspective for more than a verse or two. That's why this album is special: a lot of songs are indeed skips and superficial, but No Blame and I am not a Lyricist, for example, allow us to explore Keem's tragic past, which had been hidden for a while. That ... read more
This is just so New York. This is so grimy. This is so Griselda. This is so hip-hop. A must-listen, though I'll say it's a bittttt overrated for me as of right now.
Great, but overrated. Love how introspective he is here and the lyrical performances, but some songs are pretty underwhelming.
I'm sorry. It's not for me. I don't like Denzel in this Memphis hip-hop and trap mix. I get why people like it, but it's not even a "not lyrical miracle enough" thing, I just don't like the sound much.
Vultures II is so bad it makes this one seem like a great album. In the grand scheme of things, this album is still bad. Mixing is bad, and sure a few songs actually go pretty hard but it's mostly a mess. I don't know how BURN happened though. It's leaps beyond any other track here.
As someone who used to love Odd Future, I was committing a crime by not listening to this. This is so different from other OF projects of that era but man this album is so so so good. This is one of the greatest Alchemist performances on an album I think I've ever heard - this is Alfredo level, though the production style is quite different. Earl Sweatshirt kills it on thus album. Elimination Chamber is one of the best posse-cuts to come out of that era, Till The Angels Come is top 3 ... read more
UGH, what an album. I love me a short project, but I really wish this had more songs. The few songs that do exist here are some of my favourite Mach songs ever. Mozambique Drill is the one everyone talks about, but I absolutely love the slow build up on Eedeot Bwoy, the crazy Earl beat on Mittrom, the beat of Simbi, and so much more. Great, great, great LP. Listen to this when you have just 20min to spare.
I think it's both an underrated and overrated album. Most of the mainstream completely ignored this release, when it's a phenomenal project, while SOME people (ahem, NFR Podcast) call this AOTY when God Does Like Ugly, Let God Sort Em Out, Baloonerism, etc... all dropped. It's not as good as the original Alfredo because its predecessor was more concise, while this one could've had some fat trimmed off. Still some all-timer Freddie and Alchemist songs here. Ensalada, ... read more
They did it. They came back together after all this time and dropped what many consider AOTY of 2025. My JID bias doesn't allow it, but I see every reason why people regard it that way. Pharrell lost his mind with the production, though I found his vocal performances a bit underwhelming, Pusha T is in the peak of his powers here and where do I even begin with Malice? These two speak in pure QUOTES, but shout-out Malice, my brother in Christ, who drops some of the best lyrical performances ... read more
It's a classic. Maybe there aren't as many undeniably perfect songs in this project as others in his catalog and sure it's still quite rough around the edges, but any rapper would DREAM of having this being their best LP.
The hate here is SO forced. I know my rating isn't great, but I genuinely think all songs are very good except UNKLE HOWDY and obviously the intro. There's just not much to say when a third of the album is phone call recordings. I love the production here, BIMG DUMP BALLAD is amazing and PAULIN PAULIN PAULIN is very very very underrated. A-tier Gunn song in an all time tier list ranking.
UNDERRATED. I need to see people give more love to this mixtape. Looking through this tracklist all I see is great tracks pretty much. I love the presence Benny has in this project - he obliterates every song he's on. The rest of the features don't do anything crazy for me. Gunn's solo joints here are fantastic - though I'll admit Amherst Station 2 kinda disappointed me. Evidence Joint and Niagara Cafe are some of his most underrated songs alongside what might just be THE ... read more
Modern classic. We won't forget what you did, Fantano.
Usually Boldy James projects take a while to grow on me and for me to start giving them praise - this one is different. From the first listen I had an absolute blast. Amazing tracks all around, great Alc production, the same old top tier lyricism by Boldy, AMAZING feature cast and not once do you get bored. The production is more varied than usual for his discography and this ended up going by super fast. Love this album, every song is at least good. Highs aren't INSANELY high, but ... read more
This is one of those releases that couldn't go wrong. Conductor and Rome are already known to be a deadly duo and, though I think the production isn't up to Conductor's standard, it's still pretty good, like on M*A*S*H and Joe Pesci. The Griselda spitter kills this project though, like he always does. I think the lyrics are super sharp and I love the streams of knowledge he gives throughout this album. Tracks 7-11 are a bit worse than the rest, but this is still a fire LP.
Looking back, Frank was leaps beyond the rest of the Odd Future group around this time. A project like this being fleshed out 1 year after Goblin just shows how impressive he really was. It has some lows, but also some fantastic songs, such as Pink Matter, Pyramids, Thinkin Bout You, Super Rich Kids and Crack Rock. Fantastic work.
I'll be real, this is one of those that grew in me. At first I found this album extremely boring and sleepy, but yeah I don't know what I was thinking. I haven't been through any type of heartbreak but I'm sure this hits even harder for who has. Not much I can say that hasn't been said 1,000,000 times already.
