The Close sees Salvat homing in on a style that effectively delivers his equal parts silly and poetic lyrics. While the writing is easily Salvat’s best to date, I’m just as impressed with the music. It perfectly fits his unusual imagery and leaves the listener in an emotional trance. Also, every song somehow remains distinct even if it fully fits into the EP’s narrative. “First Time” describes how he sees his ex-love reflected in nature that’s turning cold and dark as summer is over. “Swimming Upstream” sees Salvat’s ex-lover falling into bad habits, and “One More Night” is him not being able to accept the breakup and pretending one more night would fix it. I could go on and on, but I think you should experience it for yourself.
The Close is a near perfect depiction of lost love.
Best lyric: “We tried swimming upstream. You told me that you knew where the river went. Now somewhere I am changing. Somewhere you're busy making old mistakes”.
