Yea...this is a massive disappointment. I really enjoy girl in red's first album *if i could make it go quiet*, as it had this modern pop sound with an alt girl appeal that led to some really engaging songwriting and production. And I even enjoyed the lead singles on this album, especially the (almost) title track, as I think it's a lot of a fun and serves as a really good hype track. This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The album that made me a bona fide superfan of Lizzy's addictively confessional lyricism is a masterclass in modern genre blending and snappy songwriting that never fails to disappoint. This is a definite no skip album with so many favorites to choose from, but if I had to, I would say the opener "Doomsday" and closer "Orange Show Speedway" are fantastic bookends to the overall experience, while my own personal favorite song ... read more
While I don't think this album reaches the heights of her previous effort *Five Seconds Flat*, *Older* is still a wonderous display of songwriting and lyricism. The more stripped back aspects of the production may be a turn off for some, as they may find it boring and meandering, which I can understand. But, as for me personally, I think this is another clear W for McAlpine who has cemented herself in my personal playlist as one of my favorite new artists.
This is a rare case of a perfect album. Every song on here has a place and is beautifully written. The production perfectly encapsulates Lana's incredible vocals and the instrumentation and composition are lush, vibrant, and beautiful.
Fantastic songwriting, and while the instrumentals are on the simpler side, they're wonderfully effective. Maybe a controversial opinion, but I believe this is Musgraves's best album, as I think the folk vibe fits her best.
