Silk Sonic - An Evening With Silk Sonic
87

Glistening with funk and triple coated in musical gold.

The SEAMLESS chemistry. The charisma. The confidence. The vibes. The immersion. The emotion. The artistry. The presence. The flawless production. The progression and build up on the tracks. The vocals. The perfectly intertwined humour. Just every single aspect of this album is top tier and executed almost perfectly by both Bruno and Anderson. Legit the only thing that brings it down is how short it is and how this allows the couple of ... read more

Baby Keem - The Melodic Blue
65

Disappointing debut album with glimpses of hope for the future.

Even though I wasn’t a big fan of Keem’s performances on Donda and ‘family ties’ I still expected a decent to strong debut from him. This sadly wasn’t the case. My main gripe with the album is that Keem is obviously trying to bring some flair to a genre that could definitely use some more variation; but different doesn't always equal good, and in Keem's case it bites him a lot more than it does him ... read more

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
90

Absolutely no doubt album of the year.

Hard to know where to start with this album, I’ve just never heard anything quite like it. The mixing of pure honesty and maturity with extreme intelligence makes for an incredibly uplifting and motivating story. That’s what this is, it’s not an album, it’s a story. A story of Simbi finding the ***power within introversion*** and finding the peace and love in her heart that she once thought was never there. This is all done with ... read more

Nas - King’s Disease II
75

Here we are almost 30 years after Illmatic and Nas is still able to make music that is not only really good, but it doesn’t seem out of place. This is just a testament to Nas’ insane but always overlooked longevity. His best work will obviously stay in the 90’s, but he has now made at least 1 great album in 4 different decades. And in regards to the album itself, it definitely has great highs which include the opening 2 tracks and a great run between tracks 7-9, but personally ... read more

Isaiah Rashad - The House Is Burning
71

Really glad Zay is back making music again after all he has gone through these past 5 years. Aside from that, this album is not as explosive as a comeback as I was hoping for. The main reason being that the weakest parts of the album was almost always Zay himself. Not saying his performance was bad in any way, just he was frequently outshone by the features and the production. It was mainly his verses that were lacking, constantly going back to that lackadaisical, mumbling, almost lifeless ... read more

Dave - We're All Alone In This Together
81

Uniquely special blend of storytelling and rapping ability.

From the very beginning this is a great and often intense album. Dave's ability to make the songs he does, the way he does deserves a lot of credit. His ability to tackle such complex issues and paint pictures with amazing storytelling and imagery is something very very few in the rap game can replicate. And to then mix these aspects with creative and clever bars and wordplay brings his talent to a whole other level.

The only small ... read more

Pop Smoke - Faith
50

SUCH a mess in comparison to Shoot for the Stars. An absolute chore to get through with all the unnecessary and lacklustre features throughout. Minus the intro and interlude Pop had four solo songs out of 18, FOUR!! At that point just let him rest. And to add to that it doesn't feel genuine in the slightest. Probably comes down to 50 not being a major part of its completion. Just feels like a complete cash grab, and we'll no doubt get another project in the near future...

Pi'erre Bourne - The Life of Pi'erre 5
53

Really wanted to finally get the hype for Pi'erre and like this project but i just can't. Yeah the beats are mostly great, but why does he have to be the one rapping over them? I struggle to think of a more boring rapper. Every song i just think of rappers that would sound 10 times better over the beat and how much more enjoyable it would be.

Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST
87

This generations closest thing to Kanye.

Yet another amazing piece of art from Tyler, the run he has been on since IGOR is unmatched from anyone the last 5 years. Does an amazing, amazing job on the immersion front and brings the listener in to his world of heartbreak and his methods of dealing with the scenario. Bragging is something that is often done poorly in rap, but in the case of this album Tyler does a terrific job of using this as a way of getting back at his love interest and ... read more

Migos - Culture III
61

Was really hoping for a great Migos comeback and for them to try and match the energy and chemistry they achieved on Culture 1, but the run time and amount of tracks made this impossible. There were only a handful skips (Birthday, Mahomes, and Handle My Business) but the sheer amount of tracks that sounded basically identical made the album of slog and a half to get through.

Lil Baby & Lil Durk - The Voice of the Heroes
65

Far from a bad album, but DEFINITELY falls victim to its run time and number of tracks. This could’ve, and should’ve been no more than 12 tracks. Not far into the album the tracks start becoming redundant and drawn out. Other than that, the production and beats were solid throughout, although the mixing was very off at times. Baby also outperformed Durk on majority of the tracks.

SpotemGottem - Most Wanted
22

Anyone who finds this tape even SLIGHTLY enjoyable needs to donate their brain for research purposes. Beat Box saves this from being a warcrime.

J. Cole - The Off-Season
73

Far, far from the biggest Cole fan and have found most of his album to be really uninspired. This is the most hungry i've heard Cole in a long ass time and put together 12 tracks with only a couple slight hiccups; amari felt kinda awkward and 100.mill was definitely the worst track. Overall great rapping and equally as good production that actually has me excited for his next (and final?) album.

DJ Khaled - KHALED KHALED
39

So generic it makes you angry. The only highlights are C and D tier Drake tracks, the JB and 21 track and the Baby and Durk track, that's it.

Lil Yachty - Michigan Boy Boat
45

Cool that he is putting on some underground Michigan artists, but it doesn't help that he was consistently getting out performed by them. Why can't he rap on beat even after 5-6 years? Why does he still sound so awkward on some tracks? G.I Joe and Dynamic Duo are good though.

Young Stoner Life, Young Thug & Gunna - Slime Language 2
63

First 7 tracks were promising, after that it falls off pretty hard. Also no idea why this had to be 23 tracks long.

CJ - Loyalty Over Royalty
20

Truely one of the most insufferable pieces of music i've ever heard. Not sure how it's possible for Whoopty to be the best song on an 8 track EP, but it happened. Hearing him try to recreate it 7 more times makes the EP funny more than anything. And of COURSE the only feature had to French Montana.

Justin Bieber - Justice
67

Definitely an over-hated album (if you can get past the insensitive and 1000% unnecessary inclusion and alteration of MLK speeches) that features a number of really solid tracks. The opening 2 tracks, Peaches, and Hold On are all quality in my books.

slowthai - TYRON
74

A very consistent and often deep and introspective record. Like the touch of splitting into two 7 track albums, only added to the maturity and listening experience.

Various Artists - Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired Album
74

Great mix of the old school and new school with a fair chunk of highlight performances from both sides.
