Damn, Vince works really well on trap production! Although I think this album is lacking a little bit in substance, Vince still has incredible flow. Plus, the short length actually benefits the replayability of the album quite a bit.
Slightly better, but the deluxe tracks are a mixed bag, just like the original. The features on Dasani are so funny.
Insanely atmospheric and beautiful in most parts, and then hype in others. I do think Quad's rapping is a little cringe, but the 10/10 production makes up for it.
The contrast of the hype beats and then the depressing outros just makes me feel for Vince, like he's trying to cover up his true emotions.
A dark and unfiltered reflection of Vince Staples' gang life, filled with hard beats from many high-level producers and mesmerizing flows from Vince. While not his best work, it's at least a return to form after his disappointing last EP.
RE-REVIEW
So I listened to NU again and thought it was really good, so I decided to give Channel Orange another chance, but I still just think it's Frank's weakest project. Really high highs, but just too long and not enough really good stuff to make an overall amazing experience.
The lack of really good producers is really evident to me. Sure, the production is creative, but it's not that good compared to people Vince worked with earlier in his career, like Larry Fisherman and No I.D. But Vince's raps are as good as I expected them to be.
Started a little slow, but the ending few tracks really made up for it. The outro is super fire. Mac and Vince have great chemistry all across this album, wish they worked together more later in their careers.
Quite a different, modern sound for ATCQ, but definitely a pretty good addition to their discog. I would say that the second disc is quite a bit better, but there are no real misses, except maybe Kids. RIP Phife, all the tributes to him were beautiful.
Really not all that bad, just sort of missing something. A majority of the tracks lack the emotion, energy, and jazz of Tribe's previous work. The deliveries are monotone, the beats are flat, and the lyrics are basic. However, there are a few standout tracks that bring this up to a solid listen.
God, I hate how many great albums Diddy has his hands all over, although I guess it makes sense considering the recent allegations. Yeah, didn't love this one as much as the other solo albums from Pusha T, mostly because the beat selection is weaker without the presence of Ye or Pharrell.
This is certainly much more of a low-key and subdued sound for Tribe, as opposed to the hype and jazzy earlier albums. Also, the lyrics are, in my opinion, worse just because the amount of questionable lyrics feels like it increased, and it's really distracting. Despite all those negatives, this is still a great album and a worthy addition to the Tribe discog.
Every album, Tribe manages to improve in every way possible, and this one just blew my expectations out of the water. Captivating verses, catchy hooks, and impressively unique beats. Just an absolute hip-hop masterclass.
DON'T BE DUMB IS HERE
So, I don't really get people saying that this is Rocky's most experimental album. Like sure, it's very different from anything Rocky's done, but Testing was much more varied in the different styles it showcased. This album really has a vibe and style that it sticks to, which I love to see. As far as the rapping goes, Rocky seems more relaxed but also very confrontational and high energy, if that makes sense.
(I nearly didn't finish my A$AP Rocky relistening session before DBD came out oh god) LIKE 3.5 HOURS TILL DON'T BE DUMB
Grew on me a lot. The experimentation is consistently interesting, and I'd say this is actually Rocky's most interesting album (Not a backhanded compliment at all). The balance between hard bangers and more calm and introspective tracks is pretty good too!
ONE DAY TILL DON'T BE DUMB
Not as good as the first Cozy Tapes overall, just because there's quite a lot of bloat on here. Too long and not lyrical enough to keep my attention. But What Happens is one of the best rap songs of the 2010s decade, and I will die on that hill. Legitimately the NY Avengers Endgame.
