slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
70

A perpetual fast-paced experience with maximalist production akin to Jane Remover's 'Revengeseekerz' and seamless transitions between songs that condition you into losing sense of time and tracks, making the project feel like one long song.

Robyn - Sexistential
75

A record with thrilling highs and underwhelming lows. Most tracks are hooking at first, but Robyn fails to gradually add elements to the production as tracks go by, which make them feel repetitive and boring by the end. While generally creative with its production and distorted vocals, there was a lot of wasted potential here. In a way, Sexistential feels like a watered down version of Eusexua.

⭐️ Into The Sun

BTS - ARIRANG
30

Boring lyrics and looping instrumentals that lead nowhere all around. I can appreciate the risks taken with production at times, but none ever land. This is just a compilation of failed songs that were designed to be commercial hits.

Natalia Lafourcade - De Todas las Flores
90

A pleasing blend of melancholic acoustic instrumentation and embracing vocal performances from Natalia, who manages to capture the beauty in the simplest of instrumentals and chords.

underscores - U
80

Though repetitive and undaring or easy to digest at times, U is undoubtedly pushing EDM forward with its maximalist production and emotional substance.

KicK iii is so abstract and complex, Arca might just be living 50 years ahead of us. This is what being hexed by a witch feels like.

Oklou - choke enough
85

In choke enough, Oklou invites you into a world of fantasy you won't regret stepping into.

Grimes - Art Angels
85

Art Angels isn't so bad after a few replays.

Guitarricadelafuente - SPANISH LEATHER
75

Way to conceptualize the gay teenage experience!

Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
80

Although an overall melancholic and charming project with a distinct youthful sound to it, Jubilee at times felt like background music for something bigger.

⭐ Paprika, In Hell, Posing For Cars

Harry Styles - Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.
65

This ain't disco... but it's still cute. I think people downplay this album because of the miscategorization a little too much. Harry definitely struggles to find what he wants to do with this album and it is definitely inconsistent, to the point where the only song I'd classify as disco in the album is 'Dance No More', and the rest are either EDM or just something else, and it makes the album look like failed nostalgia-bait commercial slop.

There's a good ... read more

Ino Casablanca - EXTASIA
70

A little too repetitive for me, but an overall fun listen with a distinct sound palate that's easy to digest. The production behind the songs is really good but at times insists upon itself too much.

Björk - Vespertine
100

This shit sounds DIVINE. The blend of the electronic production and strings behind this project are done immaculately well, and Björk's vocals only add onto this celestial feeling the album has. Though mainly highlighted in tracks like 'Hidden Place', 'Pagan Poetry', and 'Unison', you can still see Björk's vision all the way through, and she's consistently working on this mesh of beats and instrumentals behind songs all throughout. I ... read more

Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA
90

Rina Sawayama's debut is one of the best I've seen in pop in long. Her first LP is a genre-bending masterpiece with what I feel are very few flaws. With incredible production and vocal performances from Rina, this project manages to flux between slow and fast songs sort of incosistently, as Rina does not manage to really nail it until the very end with 'Chosen Family', which I believe should have served as the closing track instead of 'Snakeskin'. With tracks like ... read more

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
95

This album does not sound the way I expected it to, but it still feels playfully scary at times, especially in 'To Cure A Weakling Child' and 'Logan Rock Witch'. Try listening to this in a dark room.

It's honestly super impressive to release something like this in 1996. I love the way Richard, in most songs, is able to blend these upbeat overwhelming electronic beats with soothing drill and bass instrumentals in the background, and is also still capable of forming a ... read more

Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine
60

While I generally like the concept of this album, I feel like it could've been executed x5 better. I find it a pity that Ariana only really took the last 5 tracks to try to actually construct an idea or a concept for this album. There's genuinely only a few tracks throughout the album (before these 5) that do feel very fitting with the overall concept, really just tracks 4 and 5 ('Saturn Returns Interlude' & 'eternal sunshine'). However, the meaning behind ... read more

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
90

Twigs' third studio album manages to not only capture that ethereal feeling that I love about the electronic dance genre, but also clash it with something I have not seen before —it's got this pensive and meditative vibe to it that just complements the overall concept of this record so brilliantly. Whether you like them or not, and while I do admit that some are frankly worse than the rest on the record, all of the tracks have a distinctive "personality" of their own ... read more

Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong
100

I've seen a lot of people talk pejoratively of this album given how poor it is in contrast to the rest of Black Country, New Road's records, but that to me feels unfair. Many say that after the departure of ex-singer/song-writer Isaac Wood, the band feels weaker. This, however, was the first record of BC, NR's that I've listened to and they feel extremely tight to me. Nevertheless, I wouldn't be sure of the potential this band has due to me having not listened to their ... read more

Los Thuthanaka - Los Thuthanaka
100

Immersive, psychadelic, passionate, and hypnotic, this record is everything I love about oversaturated loud music. A stamp of Latin American culture and a critique or, rather, dissent against the commercial culture of the modern day industry, this is an undeniable masterpiece in my book. While I wouldn't personally give every song here a perfect rating, I do believe the album as a whole is beautifully crafted. From the visuals to the constant repetition and looping of beats and samples, ... read more

Madison Beer - locket
45

This is a nothing burger. Honestly only a handful of songs stuck with me and the rest were just meh. The project constantly switches between ballads and up-beat electronic-like songs which to me felt super weird. Had she structured it a little bit better, it might've been more enjoyable. I wouldn't say any of the songs are necessarily bad, they just don't bring anything new or unique and the album just lacks a distinct sound from everything else that's out there currently ... read more
