Having been approached by experimental theatre director, Robert Wilson, to compose music for a stage adaptation of the work of Edgar Allen Poe, Reed could have produced work to complement this revered artist of another genre, who shared his ability to explore the dark underbelly of society. The result is both pretentious and unintentionally comical. In the case of the former, we have the OTT dramatic performance by Willem Dafoe of ‘The Raven’, and in the case of the latter, we have Reed’s derisive and ‘horrific’ attempt to mime a lyric around the horror writer’s name in the eponymous track, ‘Edgar Allen Poe’. /These are the stories of Edgar Allen Poe/Not exactly the boy next do/.
