Very overrated. It's a sludgy mess of album that you'd forget in 30 minutes if not for its length.

I have a history with this song. It was one of those songs that saw near constant radio rotation when I was growing up. When you're a little kid, you don't have much of an ability to distinguish quality. On the cusp of teenhood, I learned the meaning of the lyrics and their relevance to Billie Joe Armstrong's life. See, I never had that period of being sick of hearing this song. All I hear when this song comes on is the emotional vulnerability and longing in Armstrong's voice and the blaring ... read more

Ugh. This one comes so close to a 100 for me. Everything about it is essentially perfect, but it just misses that final ingredient; that special something to push it over the edge. I don't know if I could ever pick a favorite Björk song. I wouldn't know where to begin. To pick a favorite Björk song is to undermine all of her stylistic deviations in favor of just one. There's something incredibly powerful about this album. I think its amiable nature comes from Coyne's ability to turn our everyday existential turmoil into a magical science-fiction odyssey regarding meaning, death, and the beauty of this singular moment we are all sharing. It's probably from this consistent vision that Flaming Lips were so able to draw from the wellspring of great songwriting choice that transforms every moment into a remarkably warm and lucid vision.
