SOPHIE - PRODUCT
85

What I love about SOPHIE is her ability to make every sound--every single element of her work--seem to move the music forward in a specific, unique thematic and emotional direction.

Sparse, groundbreaking, restrained yet untamed...and hard as all hell. RIP to a true legend.

Fuck L.O.V.E. though all my homies hate L.O.V.E.

Gregory Alan Isakov - This Empty Northern Hemisphere
95

Isakov's masterpiece, This Empty Northern Hemisphere captures with knowing clarity the sounds of a lonely northern expanse--of rain over mountains.

Crazy P - Walk Dance Talk Sing
75

Funky summery synths, sultry female vocals, groovy four on the floors, and plucky Daft Punk-adjacent electric guitars evoke scenes of the beach as much as the club--blending sounds of funk, soul, city pop, disco, deep house, and more in what is, for me, Crazy P's best work to date.

Drake - More Life
70

The final truly interesting album Drake would ever release.

Overmono - Good Lies
60

While cohesive and diverse in its palette, the overall listening experience of Good Lies definitely finds itself carried by the excellent singles--without which there would be no great reason to revisit this project. Given how long it has taken Overmono to release their freshman studio album, and the quality of the much more regular EPs which have preceded it, I find myself walking away a little disappointed--especially given the insane talent this duo represents.

DYAN - Looking for Knives
85

This album is criminally underrated, one of my favourite sleeper albums of all time. If you're a fan of either somber synthy soundscapes/pensive electronica, or singer-songwriter/indie folk, you should drop whatever you're doing right now and go listen to Another way to Lose, the title track, and the Ooh Song. Seriously.

DYAN - Midwest
70

Although not quite rising to the heights of their freshman project, DYAN continues to create compelling homespun synthpop/folktronica even without the collaborative influences of Samuel Jones and Dan Dorff Jr.

"Unfortunately my experience is that mind blowing jazz tends to not connect very well with those not yet well acquainted with jazz. Hard to find good jazz records that keep it accessible the whole way through really. If you're into the sound you might look into some Bossa records though, Elis & Tom might be a good place to start."

"Were you listening to the song? That's basically the whole point: she doesn't listen to UK rap, if it ain't Dave or Cench."
On SammyCheese's review of Dave & Central Cee - Split Decision
"" "Split Decision" really emphasized how Central Cee never changes his flow " " some of the worst Cench bars " bro were you even listening on Our 25th Birthday? I can respect criticism but not when it's actually just objectively untrue lmao. Might be time for a relisten of that one. This EP showcases some of his more complex performances flow-wise and that song is among his most bar-heavy--you can dislike the project but stop the cap dude."
On Chase12's review of Dave & Central Cee - Split Decision
"Thinking Trojan Horse is terrible and Our 25th Birthday is one of the best songs of all time is a bit of a headscratching take tbh. Music taste is a strange beast."

On Toasterqueen12's review of James Blake - James Blake
"something I always try to do with myself when I find a piece of music boring, and something I recommend you try as well, is to ask yourself: is the music I am listening to actually boring, or am I simply bored, because I am listening for and attuned to the wrong elements of the track, or because of external factors. Or given that you also rated overgrown at 48/100, maybe James Blake is just not for you at this point in your life."
On Chickeninthesky's review of Drake - Scorpion
"Yeah most of the time an artist's YouTube comments will be supportive irregardless of how good the song is, unless it's particularly bad and has been picked up outside of that artist's core fan base."

"Jasik agreed. Heavy Stunts is a top tier track for moshing. All love CDTV but you're trippin on this one ngl."
