The back side of this record needs to be studied. It's so trippy and transcendent... Other than that the front side besides The Black Meat, I honestly found it pretty uninteresting. I dont know what it is
If only I was transgender and suicidal, I'd certainly relate to this more.
As a one time experience, this did alter my view on how music was made, the culmination of festering sadness and harsh noise backed by Xiu Xiu similar sounds made for a quite harrowing journey.
The Preacher Man says it's the end of times... I tell him "Have Hope!"
They NEED to release more, this is such an insane group. This album has me stressin, in a great way.
Super groovy grindcore stuff, I loved Raise the Curtain. This type of shit is great for speeding in a Nissan I do not own
Disco Inferno pisses me off... Despite this, The 5 EPs compilation is better than any of their albums. I really enjoyed From the Devil to The Deep Blue Sky, nice guitar run, reminds me of Tortoise
It's a shame the only track I care about no one likes. Another boring sit through...
Coming in with no prior knowledge. Obviously I didn't know what to expect, I wasn't expecting an album full of tracks consisting of a British wimp speaking over 15 sounds all playing over each other with a distant guitar melody in the background. This project horribly blends into it self, calling this post-rock is such a crutch. There was only 2 track I enjoyed, being Next Year and A Whole Wide World Ahead.
Listened to this, feeling isolated, turns out to be one of the greatest pieces I have heard.
How this album is set up is so cool, having this emotional noise rock masterpiece as the center of the album followed by this extraordinary minimal ambient experience that deserves way more love. This is just such a stroke of genius after Juntaro's long hiatus.
Im not into Black Metal in particular, but I love the Flenser. Nevertheless, the first half of the album, being the heavier side gets a little repetitive in my opinion, i love the creative risk taken in the bottom half like in Bodhidharma or Dan's Love Song. This album serves as a great precursor to what they will make in the future. Also Flea is a banger
This is actually a great fucking album, front to back, back to front, will not tolerate any hate. BANGER
My friend tries to convince me this album is the better one between it and Shed, but in my opinion its not. The main problem is that the back half of the album is lack luster to me besides In-Between. It also has this weird limbo energy of Shed and what would be Hyperview, so that throws off the vibe for me.
This album was an immediate classic, I love it so much, any time I could just throw it on and have a great time and every song hits (except Kingston)
This did not give me much joy, I thought the instrumentation throughout was amazing. I just couldn't find myself liking the vocalist singing style very much. Just not my thing, but I believe his performance on The Blades was good, almost found it catchy. In my opinion the frontman, Ollie Judge, didn't add the unique attention grabbing vocals I was looking for, possibly even turned me away.
While not held in such high regard as the later records this is quite the great starting point. Although the immaturity of his career is shown through the many (Parts) there are, maybe the record is suppose to be seen as seven movements instead of 20 individual tracks. Disregarding that, this album feels like a peaceful awakening on an early Sunday morning, instead of immediately checking your phone, you grab a cup of coffee and sit on the back porch watching birds fly by you and bunnies ... read more
It reminded me of those staple indie games, Please Don't Touch Anything and Papers Please. Harmony in Ultraviolet brings out those brutalist qualities those simple games inhabited, but does this mean anything? To me, yes, the melancholic nostalgia this album brings really puts me at peace, a peace accompanied with a somberness.
