The 1975's latest album is a mix of exhilarating highs and horrific lows.

Coming into this release I expected nothing of it. The 1975 have never impressed me sonically or in terms of songwriting. But curiosity did catch me and give me the desire to check it out. And I will say although it's not great, it's not nearly as bad as the singles could have made it out to be. In fact some of the singles have grown on me quite a bit since initial listen.

This album doesn't open up all that well. I'll ... read more

I'm sorry but I just can't get into this album. For the life of me it's been extremely difficult to get used to the screaming and after about 5 listens I don't think I can do it. I did enjoy parts of it but to be fair I won't rate this since I am clearly incapable of appreciating it's full artistic vision.

It's nothing new for KAYTRANADA, but what is provided here is a short collection of solid material. Ty Dolla $ign sounds good on "Nothin Like U" which adds to another surprisingly good feature from him this year. Proof that you can still be a lyrical rapper and not have to rap about corny stuff *AHEM* Logic, Eminem, Hopsin, Joyner Lucas. I did enjoy this one more than the first just because it's a lot more material that I can love. Black Thought is easily a top 3 rapper right now and if he keeps this up ... I mean who knows. Black Thought in my eyes is the most consistently great rapper there ever was, and this justifies that even more.

Perfectly summarized by it's cover art, Queen Of Golden Dogs is exactly what I expected it to be and even more at times. Right off of the bat I was hooked to this album. It's production is very intense and grabs the listener's attention quite easily. It sounds like a blueprint of different sounds coming together to form one absolute composition. It brings a more bare-bones feel to the idm genre taking influences from other genres like club, house, electronic, glitch, and ambient. This ... read more
