Man, I mean, it sounds great, but this whole rollout is weird for me. This song is about nothing; anyone could've sung this. She's been doing this for years - latching on to what's trendy (here, she clearly has some Charli envy) - but it reeks of insecurity.
I've joked in the past about Madonna making her "Blackstar", but I'm 100% serious. I'd genuinely love for Madonna, with basically infinite wealth, fame and resources, to make an album. Make an album! ... read more
God, that metaphor is stretched. Besides that personal pet peeve, it's a fine song. That outro's pretty cool.
Hm, do I want boring or bad?
Ok, FINE... it's not that bad, but still, I still stand by the idea that this whole "Oh, it's all ironic, so actually you're the stupid one - it sounds bad on purpose, ahhh" shit is tired, and I always hate it. It's like what Lorde did when Solar Power flopped. Amature.
Uhhhhhh... I don't know how to feel about this. I've never been a fan of the crummy, reverb-y sound that Fletcher and Wyatt have been experimenting with, both with The Garden and on their respective side projects.
Still excited for their new album - I love The Garden - but following the 100 of HR66 I'm not expecting my mind to be blown.
Oblique punk. That's the best way I can describe the sound of this album. 'Material' is a lot less "eggy" than his previous material (haha), though I wouldn't say it's a full-on traditional punk record either. It has this digital and mechanical sheen to it that works well. Still, a lot of the songs can be pretty boring and unadventurous, such as the Lo-fi rambling of Symmetry or the monotonous hodgepodge of Total Reality (I dig the cowbell).

Yup, I can tell why some songs remained as demos. However, some good songs can be found amidst the debris. Allow me to show my findings!
Favourites:
- BC Technology
- Aint Dumb
- 40k Demo (WAY SUPERIOR TO THE OFFICIAL IMO!)
- Stink Eye
- ABC
Eh:
- Find the Beat
- Couch Potato
- Bedrock
- Do it in the Dirt
Shit:
- Working 4 the FBI (Shit variation of their best song)
The rest is just fine. It's eggpunk.
Pretty good. Popped this on in the background and didn't turn it off.
I blame Knoll for getting me into noise.
Hm, I guess this does the job. Gee Tee has made way more creative albums, and I found a sizeable chunk of this is pretty same-same, or even worse, rehashes of other songs. Like does every song need a tambourine? The biggest offenders are Within the Walls - FBI from Shein - and 40k, whose demo (seen on another album) is way punchier. Two of the song's tracks - Stuck Down (which is the "hit" from this album) and Rock Phone - are from a previous EP and just feel kind of tagged on, ... read more
I really like clust.r and her sound, being a fan since her S/T. This is undoubtedly her least homogenous and most adventurous album. At what cost? It's a little too much at times, with her definitely leaning into the noise and chaos, which is cool but something I wouldn't come back to. It's still got that clust.r grooves and digital grime, with songs like Face Down and Payback being catchy as hell.
Cool project, though I don't think I'll go back to it in full.
Eh, I already think it's overhated, though I don't agree with the charli stans either. I mean, it's not that good, but I am intrigued by what she can do with this sound. The first step is for the sound to actually sound good, y'know? God forbid, call me a centrist.
EDIT (64-68): Barely a bump up, but dare I say it's growing on me - or at least I'm building a tolerance to it.
Really awesome. Don't care about Angels of Light but Akron's contributions are excellent, having some of their coolest songs on here. Not sure why this flew under the radar for me!
A promising start to a promising Brazilian rock band! While super creative, I found that there was a little too much filler, and with the album being only 9 tracks, some songs feel underbaked. But when they cook, Sophia Chablau e Uma Enorme Perda de Tempo REALLY cook. Tracks like Pop cabecinha, For do meu quatro, and Debaixo do pano are some of my favourite songs from their catalogue.
Favorite track: Debaixo do pano
Least favorite: Deus lindo
Incredible! I've been following Christtt's work for a while now, picking up a few songs then and there but overall putting him in the "interesting" music category rather than the "stuff I'd listen to" category. Compared to his previous catalogue, which was cool and interesting, but which I didn't find that accessible, Soft Rock blew my socks off. It's his most poppy stuff, sure, but I feel like he strikes a balance between his internet-scraping ... read more
Great egg punk record. It's rare an album from this genre actually sounds good, so points to you, Mr Cherry Cheeks.
