Going into this, my expectations were low. I noticed it was a pop record so I wasn’t expecting a whole lot of creativity or originality, but I was pleasantly surprised. Empress Of has something special that I can’t put my finger on. Her vocals - while not too distinct - are gorgeous and have a pretty large range. There are so many little quirky production choices that pay off and make what are originally standard pop tunes much more interesting.

There’s nothing game changing about it but it’s a nice little synthy pop indie record. The vocals could be better but the production is top notch. Songwriting is okay for what it is.
Best track: Pirouette

A bit all over the place stylistically but the themes of desire for love & belonging bring it all together. Yves comes right out of the gate with 2 bangers and things do get a bit more tame as it goes along but there’s no real loss of emotional potency.
Best tracks: Gospel for a new century, medicine burn, kerosene!, Romanticist, Super Stars
Worst track: Strawberry Privelege (still ok)!

I really love the hook but its hard to tell if Drake is passionate about the dance or if he is just corporately engineered to create this inevitable super-hit for 14 year olds on Tik Tok.

Some of these melodies feel forced, the production is rough around the edges and I was shocked to find that the singing here and there just is not very good. However, Thundercat still triumphs to provide a decent set of tracks here with the standouts being Dragonball Durag, Fair Chance (even though the Lil B feature almost ruined it) and It Is What It Is.

Nothing bold or ambitious here. It’s barren it’s stripped back and it’s what the title says it is: empty.
There a few beautiful pieces here and some of it will make fine background cooking music.

Pleasantly surprising. This release sort of slipped through the cracks for me but I'm finally catching back up. Squirrel Flower is a relatively new Indie pop/rock/folkish artist with an angelic voice. Her range isn't anything spectacular but the vocals on "I Was Born Swimming" are genuine and effective. While a couple of the songs leak and bleed into each other, there are some real stand outs here and there.

Good. Nothing technical or critical is going to blow you away but these vibes + quarantine has me feeling some type of way. Indie sad boy vocals over chill production, would recommend.

Solid debut. Sounded really fresh and crisp, good production. There were some pretty unspectacular and boring moments that could have used more vocal passion or better melodies but there were also some really good tracks here and there.

I truly think Herb has some interesting stuff to say and has the ability to bring forth a meaningful message. But the way he presents it here just is not the right way to do it. Trap bangers aren't the best way to talk about some of these things that are waaaay deeper than that. The title track brings this up about 5 points.

"take care of yourself...take care of yourself...take care of yourself..." i don't think its fair to compare a low budget bandcamp project to multimillion dollar albums so i'm gonna hold off on giving a score. but trust me on this: its good.
this tape is what it sounds like to lose a friend. the lo-fi vocals & tape hissing give a feeling that the vocalist's voice can no longer be heard by the other party and there is an emotional void and divide.

This is like rocks equivalent of mumble rap: exciting, fun, short, repetitive and sometimes lacking substance.
Essentially, The Chats give us 14 brief delinquent vignettes going off about their debauchery. The instrumentals and structure are pretty much the same barring guitar solos here and there (which are actually quality stuff). The lyrics show signs of satire and you will get a good laugh out of some of them. I really enjoyed the vocalists energy.

I'm not gonna lie, I was not expecting this. PND is not a favorite of mine but he has a couple older tracks that I can throw on and vibe with. There was never really a reason to hate the guys music.
But this. Maybe the most boring record of the year so far. Definitely his worst batch of songs. He insists on ripping off Drake, The Weeknd & even 2013 era Justin Bieber for the majority of the runtime. There are only 1-2 instrumentals that stand out with the rest just sounding like extremely ... read more

Forgettable in every way. 5SOS are still pretty huge they have a cult following of stans on tumblr & twitter so i’m sure this album won’t be a disappointment for everyone.
I don’t see myself coming back to this. Most of the tracks presented here are what you expect: artificial, overly compressed & derivative.
The closer, “High”, was a highlight for me and probably my favorite song that they’ve put out. There were a few good choruses here and there, ... read more

Good project. Knwledge has built up an impressive resume; producing on TPAB and working with acclaimed artists like Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Badass & Paak. This 37 minute piece of chill beats bring together soul, jazz and some minor aspects of slum rap. It’s grimy yet pristine and beautiful at the same time. The sampling is just gorgeous and technically sound. A couple tracks at the end are a bit weak but overall I’m really digging this thing.

Starts out really strong. The first half is really good! Around the 7th track it starts to trail off and I feel like it gets less interesting while attempting the same ideas that already worked earlier in the record. It gets reallllly boring over time in my opinion and there’s not a whole lot of variety once you’ve reached the end.
Still some really pleasant & pretty songs that are like therapy in the world we live in today.

Joyner Lucas’ true diehard fans that are passionate about him are the ones who like his longer more in-depth storytelling tracks that he was infamous for early in his career. He has always been seen as corny and a “lyrical spiritual miracle” rapper by mainstream/new wave rap fans. On ADHD, Joyner tries to fuse these two styles of rap together and it feels like a compromised mess. He ends up biting styles from many new rappers and it seems forced. I’m not going to sit ... read more

In 2018 & 2019, the St. Louis aspiring trapper released Bawskee 1, 2 & 3.5 just to give you an idea of how much he thinks about his craft.
I listened to every Comethazine song in his discog today. Only 2 did not follow this format: hook, verse, hook, hook. He has found a formula that I guess works for him but you can not listen to this and tell me it took him longer than 30 minutes to write a single song on Pandemic.
Also, the album cover & title give some hints to ... read more
