Edit: Yeah this grew on me
After loving Brutalism, I was excited to check out their most highly praised album. Brutalism was an album that was super energetic, but was insanely catchy and memorable, along with the production being gut punching. So how did this album do against the debut? Well personally, I like the debut better. This album is still definitely good for sure, but for some reason it didn’t capture me as much. I think the production is good, but it’s not as good as it was on Brutalism. The songwriting definitely has some unique qualities to it though. The opener, Colossus, has this insane build up that leads to an explosion, and then it turns into a full on punk song. Really cool ideas, and great execution. Never Fight A Man With A Perm is a great example of a good Idles song. It has a catchy melody, crazy guitars, and a lot of power to it. I think the absolute highlight of this album is the closer. Rottweiler is a BULLDOZER of a track. The ending is absolutely nuts, and I love the distorted craziness and feedback as it keep going. I was really blown away with that track. While the rest of the album is definitely good, those are the tracks that stand out to me the most. Still, a good listen for sure, and I’m hoping it might grow on me with time.
