This album is absolutely breathtaking. With Bjork’s departure with her loved one at this time, you can hear it so clearly in the sound, lyrics and vocal performance. It sounds so tragic. It’s definitely an album that feels like more of an experience than a bunch of individual songs, and you know I love when albums are like that. The instrumentation is SOOO good like ooooooooh chilllsssss. It almost reminds me of what’s so great about Vespertine. Another thing to note as that at some points, I feel like during prats of this record Bjork draws back on her vocals. I could see how some people would see it as a downgrade, but honestly I see it as an added specialty to this album, letting it meld with the instrumentation more. The song Stonemilker is probably one of my all time favorite Bjork songs. It us undeniably crushing, and gorgeous. The composition of the song feels so surreal, and I cant even imagine how long it took to figure everything out. Black Lake is kind of the same for me, in the way that it is just so impressive and incredibly engaging for being ten minutes long. It seriously doesn’t drag at all and I get SO MANY CHILLS like holy fuck. So beautiful, and it’s probably tied with Stonemilker for being my fav. Family is a super intense song, and by the second half by jaw was dropped. When that violin comes in with the electronics I lose my mind. History of Touches is shorter but just as impressive and memorable for being a more simple track. I mean, I literally don’t think there are any bad songs on here, even remotely. It’s just such a beautiful but melancholy journey. Truly, Bjork has an impressive amount of beauty that’s hard to to match.
