God. Holy shit. I don’t even know where to start. I guess the first thing I’ll say, is that Bjork genuinely just keeps getting better and better. The second thing I’ll say, is 1997..? This came out in the fucking 90s? I get it was late 90s but still. It doesn’t sound dated at all. Like even remotely. I’d say that Bjork’s first two releases feel like they are from the 90s to some extent, but you could’ve told me this came out today and I would’ve been convinced. The third thing I’ll say, is that this is the sort of shit that makes me fall in love with music. My mind is completely blown with this project. Everything about it, I just love. It took me a second to fully get into the sound because I feel like it’s quite a bit different from her other releases, but once it clicked, it CLICKED. The production is absolutely stellar, the songwriting is sooooooo unique and the singing.. don’t even get me started. The instrumentation is literally on another freakin plane. Going into the songs, I guess I should start with the song Bachelorette. I… I don’t even know how to talk about this song. It is one of the most chill inducing, beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I don’t just throw that out lightly, I mean it. I don’t know what else to say about it but that. Unravel is another fucking gorgeous cut, and honestly it’s perfect to place before Bachelorette. Btw, the flow of this album is impeccable. Pluto is a song that bumps up the energy quite a bit, but still absolutely floors me with its progression and intensity. All Is Full of Love is a beautiful closer. Joga is a pretty catchy, but still incredibly unique blend of electronic and orchestral moments. There literally isn’t a single bad song on here. Hunter, 5 Years, Immature, Alarm Call, etc. I know this review is me just gushing about this album, but as I said, this is the sort of thing that makes me love music. What you can do with sound and emotion. I could see this growing more as well with time. What an experience.
