Some songs here are definetely among the best they ever made. But, as a whole, this album is maybe the most inconsistent they've put out or at least on the same level as Louder Than Love, with some really subpar tracks, especially in the second half.
This album solidifies Tom Morello as one of the most inventive guitarists out there, it's just impressive what he does here. Zach's vocals add a layer of aggression while Brad and Tim provide the counterbalance to it with a funky rhythm that should not work with this kind of music. Yet it all does come together seamlessly and creates an amazing album, the best possible successor to their debut.
It starts off really solid, but from Art School Girl onwards, I think that final stretch of this album is the worst Stone Temple Pilots have been yet, and the main reason I enjoy this less than their next album.
The first two tracks are really good. But after that the albums takes on a downward trend, with instrumentals and vocals that feel very similar and songs start really blending together to the point you really can't tell them apart. For the most part it's not bad, bud it's not particularly good either, just ok.
As with most double albums, this one just has too many tracks that I feel don't add much. Disc 2 is considerably weaker in my opinion, disc 1 is good overall, but if you take the best tracks from both you could make an LP that would rival Siamese Dream as the best Pumpkins album.
