As The Kinks moved along to album five with Something Else, Ray Davies continued to progress his songwriting further and bring the bands sound into new musical directions. “Death of a Clown” and “Waterloo Sunset” are the the two noticeable hits here, but “David Watts”, “Two Sisters”, “Harry Rag” and “Afternoon Tea” prove to be other big highlights. Another notable track "Lazy Old Sun" might not be my favorite, but the experimental drone of the verse compared to the brightness of the chorus presented something worth noting. Ray’s brother Dave also asserts himself with three writing contributions and lead vocal (one of them being “Death of a Clown”) which provide a different dynamic for the band. Something Else by the Kinks kept the high quality material going for The Kinks and decidedly became another winning effort for the band.
