This is far from the most original album in the world, and there's a part of me that just loves this because it sounds like The 1975 and The Japanese House. At the same time though, there's some really great songwriting on here that gets personal and at times political, and the choruses and production are excellent so if that's not enough I don't know what is.
FAV TRACKS: Dancing On The Wall, Eastside Girls, On Call, So What, Big Stick, Girls Girl, Buzzkiller
Dani Allen's excellent vocals and screams mostly make up for some pretty standard punk instrumentation.
FAV TRACKS: The Chop, Leglock, Clenched Fist, Toolkit For Denial
This sounds like if you took glass beaches first album and removed all the ambition and interesting songwriting away. It's not awful but it just sounds like a performative Sears commercial.
Look Charli I appreciate that you're trying to rip off "New Last Name" by Courting since it supports my prediction that it was going to be influential but could you have done a better job at it?
I was excited to check this one out after finding out it was a mostly acoustic country album, considering how much I loved "Nebraska" and especially "The Ghost of Tom Joad". Unfortunately, this album is pretty much standard for Springsteen. I love the title track, it sounds like a really great Jason Isbell song. I also really liked "Long Time Comin" and the really interesting vocal approach on "All I'm Thinkin' About". Other then that, this is a ... read more
I gotta check more of Bill's stuff out this is an excellent singer-songwriter record.
Femtanyl combines her internet breakcore stylings with more traditional digital hardcore and synth punk to great effect on "MAN BITES DOG"
FAV TRACKS: BODY THE PISTOL, VIDEO NASTY, SICK OF IT, HELLTARGET, SHOWS YOU THE WAY TO THE HIWAY, MAN BITES DOG
If you can look past the terrible album cover youll find one of the rowdiest and most entertaining trap albums of last year. I hate to give Alphonse Pierre (who is a hack to be clear) any credit but this album is actually a lot of fun.
Easily the best Lil Wayne project I've heard. It's bizzare to me that he's made so much of his best material on mixtapes originally released for free but I'm not complaining.
"Abbey Road" would obviously have made for a better closing to the bands career, but "Let It Be" works as a way of clearing up the lose ends the band left during the Get Back sessions. A lot of these songs aren't that special, but the ones that are really work.
FAV TRACKS: Two of Us, Dig a Pony, Across the Universe, Let It Be, The Long and Winding Road, Get Back
I really wanna like this album more then I do. The more digital sounding moments can be incredible but there is too much here that feels derivative and unfinished for this to be a truly great album. Still a pretty decent album and WAY too overhated in my opinion.
FAV TRACKS: I LUV IT, Dade County Dreaming, B.O.A.T
Friko's take on indie rock maxamilsm crossed with The Beatles works pretty well.
FAV TRACKS: Guess, Still Around, Seven Degrees, Something Worth Waiting For, Dear Bicycle
I'm sorry but I really don't understand what makes this guy so special. He's not a particularly interesting rapper, other then the way he chops up some of his vocals. His production is decent but it sounds pretty standard to cloud rap, down to using an Imogen heap sample on the first song. It's not terrible but I feel like Fakemink has been talked about as one of the next great UK Rap artists moreso then more interesting artists like Jim Legaxcy and EsDeeKid when his work ... read more
I'm kind of surprised how much I liked this since I've tried listening to "The Blueprint" many times unsuccessfully, but this is an excellent pop Rap album. I've never realized how incredible the "99 Problems" beat is.
FAV TRACKS: December 4th, What Can I Say, Encore, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Moment of Clarity, 99 Problems, Public Service Announcement, Lucifer, My 1st Song
I see the talent here but unfortunately this album doesn't hit me at all. There's a lot of good ideas but I don't think they amount to much. It's objectively well done but it's not for me.
"The Art of Loving" is a decent R&B album, even if it plays things a little too safe.
FAV TRACKS: Close Up, So Easy (To Fall In Love), Let Alone The One You Love, Man I Need
I liked this one when I first heard it, but it's grown on me more and more since. A rare case of a divorce album that takes true steps towards empathy and love. Also "Good While It Lasted" may be one of the best songs of the decade.
I am shocked at how good this is. G Herbo shows a level of emotional vulnerability on this album that I didn't expect and the beat choices and flows are excellent. I feel like this should be talked about as one of the great Chicago Drill albums more then it seems to be.
Lime Garden show themselves to be quite a bit more interesting then many of their indie sleaze counterparts on this album. Surprised by how solid they are lyrically, particularly on Body and Always Talking About You.
FAV TRACKS: Cross My Heart, Downtown Lover, Maybe Not Tonight, Body, Always Talking About You, Do You Know What I'm Thinking
