I yawned like 8 times in the span of one of the songs
It has two all-time classic songs, PIMP and In Da Clubs, a few neat ones like Many Men, but many tracks make the album a bit of a slog.
Some of the cleanest production I have ever heard on an album. Also "One Love" sounds like the Arby's jingle lol
The namesake song is alright. Then the third and fourth songs are peak music for turning your brain off and dancing to. Then the album is mundane high-energy synthesizers for the rest of the songs with "Take it to the Hole" and the last song as mini-highlights. The lyrics are obviously stupid and sometimes genuinely insulting in their immorality but overall the album is occasionally funny and catchy enough to warrant an ironic listen on a good day.
This album may be overproduced, but I think it gives it an edge. I think I'm in love with the fact of how grandiose and hyper it feels. There's not a dull moment sonically. Maybe some song melodies or some of the lyrics may not be up to snuff or very original, but you can guarantee that there's always something crazy playing in your ears. If I were to say that this album hurts to listen to because it's too loud, that would be dishonest: Metallica to me is so loud I can only ... read more
To be fair, this song isn't supposed to be taken seriously. As a joke song, it's kind of funny in an absurdly unbelievable way. I rated it as "really bad" though because it's obviously just Drake's way to distract from the fact he lost his beef, which he's not being too stealthy about.
The song is very unbalanced. The Future part is chill, and the Kendrick part is energetic and quotable. Although disjointed, each part in isolation is good, especially Kendrick whose feature is a show-stopper and pretty much a 10/10.
The album is pretty decent. The album starts off strong from the first track and then has passable highs and middling lows. Best tracks: WSDTY, Luv Bad Bitches, Beat It, Red Leather
I'm so sad, I listened multiple times thinking it would be great but it's so mid :(
It feels like an experience, like you're going deeper and deeper into a pit. That part's cool, but the album itself is not as memorable as you'd expect that to be.
Also the lyrics are dumb sometimes. "Trying and lying, defying, denying, crying and dying": those are just a list of words with negative connotations that rhyme with each other
Has one of Monae's best on it, "Violet Stars, Happy Hunting!"
The first 5 times I listened to this it sounded like nothing special to me, but for some reason I had most of the songs liked on Spotify. I don't know how I came to that conclusion before, but by the umpteenth time I listened I finally at least sort of understood why people call this album the GOAT. The album flows very smoothly and is clearly meticulously constructed, and the concept of more and more of a poem being unveiled throughout the album is unlike anything else. Although the ... read more
Moments on this album are either uninteresting, mildly amusing, or unabashedly bad (sometimes in a funny way). Not the terrible album people make it out to be but also not quite good.
