couple of takeaways from this:

how on earth did this band go from this to The Bends in just 2 years? that’s an unbelievable step up. and then they made a near flawless discography after that.

i will probably return to this album whenever i need advice on what not to do when writing guitar music.

that being said i think it’s pretty solid, not great but very listenable with a few great tracks. i enjoyed You, Anyone Can Play Guitar, Ripcord, I Can’t, Blow Out (which is ... read more

It’s a fitting title.

Allow me to establish credibility here, to justify a perfect score. Not to sound elitist, but I am willing to bet that I do listen to more jazz and know a bit more about it than most people on this website (and I only feel comfortable saying this because the records I listen to all end up having 3 reviews each). I also managed to make Texas’ All-state jazz band (honestly miraculously), so maybe that’ll help. With some “I have an idea of what ... read more

I like Matt Healy and The 1975. I don’t think they have made a great record yet. Perhaps A Brief Inquiry is that for some people, but that still wasn’t doing it for me. yeah i couldn’t find a single issue with this record i was floored from top to bottom. this is my titanic rising for the year i guess (funny because they did a really enjoyable conversation for crack magazine, check it out), except i wasn’t even following the singles before it released. this dude is a genius. someone on an Instagram post said this album tickles you, and i think that’s the best way i can describe it.

makes me question if i am gay honestly

heck yeah sparks, they’ve still got it. crazy how i get a lot of bands i enjoy from Edgar Wright: he put me on to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (fantastic matador label experimental blues rock band if you don’t know), sparks, and a couple more. Propaganda is an album i really enjoy, and a lot of this feels like that. it feels like they’re as good as ever with their songwriting, just with a more modern sound. even their vocals are holding up incredibly well for how operatic they ... read more
