I just really expect so much more out of someone who idolizes Stephen Malkmus to the point where she writes a song saying "I Wish I Was Stephen Malkmus." This is not how you try and be him. I would much rather listen to a complete Pavement ripoff. now if this was a springsteen record from the 80s you guys would be like "oh yeah this is a pretty underrated record from bruce."

i mean yeah, it's not flawless, but i am not so sure where you guys are seeing that this is a genuinely bad record. it's definitely a heartland rock, synth-rock, arena rock record, but it's not bad for such labels. i guess if you're expecting another hot fuss, and that's all you're willing to accept from the killers, then yeah you're gonna cry about it, ... read more

this is a vast improvement over their last record, which i honestly wanted to like a lot, but never found much to cling on to. the band self-described this effort as the cross of "black sabbath and talking heads," and i guess if you look hard enough you can see the influence in some tracks that sound heavier and more hard rock, with others being centered around rhythmic exploration and groove like a 'heads track, but otherwise that's not too evident. however, the record is still ... read more

thank you Ian Cohen for hyping this record up for like a month now, and then giving it an 8.1. regardless, thanks to his high praise of the record on his twitter, i checked this out.
