Rush - Vapor Trails

This album’s a huge guilty pleasure of mine. It just feels so abrasive and raw that it perfectly reflects the nature of the band at that time. I like just about all of the tracks on this thing, Out of the Cradle possibly being my least favorite, but still fairly listenable and a fitting theme for the close of the album. It’s an album that speaks upon the experiences of Neil Peart and his tragedies before the record, and the struggle for the band to reunite after those occurances. In a way, its imperfections and flaws somewhat serve it well, adding to the toughness and raw feel of the record. It feels beautiful but foreboding simultaneously, reflecting what Peart How Peart likely feels about life after his traumatic experiences: it’s both beautiful and terrorizing. All in all, I have a huge love for this record even though it’s considered one of their weaker releases; I think there’s some sort of magic to it.
