MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks
85

NORTH CAROLINA MENTIONED. All jokes aside I had never heard of Mj Lenderman until a few months ago when every record store in the state promoted the hell out of this project months before it's release. And now that we finally have it I can say that the wait was worth it. There's something oddly nostalgic about this album. I feel like I'm going through my camera roll from my freshman year of college and reminiscing on the bittersweet memories I made during that time. If ... read more

Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster
0

One of the funniest things I've ever listened to. There's like 4 different genres of music going on and they all sound horrible. Lyrically this sounds like a discord mod just got rejected by his favorite kitten and now he's throwing a temper tantrum. Also the incessant moaning over "cancel culture" across several tracks was hilarious. Its seems like every time an artist falls off and no one talks about them anymore their immediate reaction is to throw away any and all ... read more

Michael Jackson - Thriller
100

The highest selling album ever for a reason. If Off the Wall was Micheal Jackson's sendoff to the disco obsessed era of the 70's, Thriller is a fireworks explosion so huge that everyone on the planet could see it. Micheal did something that no artist could ever do again, guy literally had tribes who had no access to the outside world knew who he was which is just insane. But when you listen to Thriller it makes total sense. Micheal captured such an infectious sound and groove into ... read more

Nails - Every Bridge Burning
80

Nails in a very short period of time have become easily one of my favorite metal bands. Their insanely loud, piercing, brutal instrumentation matched with ghoulish vocals that sound like barbaric warlord screaming to a mass of orcs. With that being said I think Every Bridge Burning is personally their weakest project. Then again if your weakest project is still a brutal hard hitting 17 minute tornado of chaos then I saw you're doing pretty damn good. The riffs across several songs mix the ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
80

This is a great project dont get me wrong but I can't figure out how this is aoty for so many people? This album has debuted at 151 on the RYM all time score list and 89 all time on here. And after multiple re listens I still don't get all the hype. The instrumentation and production across the project is excellent with heavy emphasis towards a sound of the late 90's to early 2000's internet age. This is one of those albums that sounds best with a good pair of headphones so ... read more

Björk - Vespertine
100

Vespertine is one of those albums that fully deserves the amount of monumentous praise it receives. Its a project centered around her relationship with Matthew Barney and it shows across this entire project. The raw emotion in her voice paired with other worldly instrumentals soar me into a galaxy where the love you have for your partner is universally important. Love can be an extremely difficult emotion to capture as many experience love differently but on this project Bjork captures that ... read more

The Beatles - Abbey Road
100

Been listening to this album on and off the past 2 months and I think this is one of those albums that truly does live up to the hype. This is The Beatles at a creative peak so great that it proceeded to influence rock music for the next half century. This album has laid the ground work for many genres of rock music from Psychedelic Rock to Metal. Its hard to put into words just how influential this album is but one thing it did for sure is cement The Beatles as the greatest band of all time. ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
95

'If I was an NBA player i'd be Dylan Brooks but WORSE" is such a banger opener to one of the best projects of this year. Peggy is back with his 7th studio album and its an absolute screamer. JPEGMAFIA has slowly cemented himself as one of the most creative artists in Hip-Hop with his incredible production and lyricism that makes his songs such an enjoyment to listen to. With his new project Peggy continues to push the boundaries with some absolutely insane instrumentals on this ... read more

Daft Punk - Discovery
100

One of the greatest pieces of house music ever. If you’re looking to get into house music Discovery is an album filled to the brim with head bopping bangers and more melancholy tracks towards the later half of the album. The variety offered on Discovery is the main highlight for me as no two ideas are reused with each track being so much more distinct from the others.

MF DOOM - Born Like This
85

"DOOM's got a plan that's gonna shake the heavens" is a opener that perfectly sums up the vibe of this album. This is a very heavy projects with some great tracks and bars from DOOM. The intrumentals on this project are a wonderful mix of bangers in Gazzillion Ear, Rap Ambush, and ANGELZ. this is also paired with songs like That's That where DOOM pairs fast, heavy hitting bars with some singing towards the end of the track. Overall a great project that tends to get ... read more

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
85

This is such a cozy album. While the core of this album deals with issues of Infidelity and ending relationships the instrumentation across the entire project feels like a warm blanket on a cold winters night. I do think calling this album overrated is pretty ridiculous considering it has tracks like Dreams and The Chain which are easily some of the best written and produced Folk songs you’ll hear. Overall a really enjoyable project that gets way to much hate simply because of ... read more

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D
90

Sorry Porter Robinson, but im taking you to court. This album did not make me smile it made me SAD. This is a very personal album hidden behind very poppy, sugary synths and pretty acoustics. Porter presents us with heavy topics about self love and on the track Russian Roulette thoughts of suicide. Porter's ability to create these very upbeat, positive vibe then being able to mix in such somber lyrics is pretty impressive and made for a very fun, introspective look into the artists life.

Ice Spice - Y2K!
20

God this was sad. Ice Spice's first album and holy shit its bad. Songs with repetitive beats, weak features, and on top of that some of the worst bars of this year hands down. Why in god's name is poop mentioned this much? Like im not even kidding almost every song on the second half of this project mentions poop or farting its awful. This album comes in at 10 tracks, 23 minutes long but each one leaves a lasting impression of stink that makes me want to vomit. There are so many ... read more

Ween - The Mollusk
90

Ween were making Sea Shanties before they were cool. One of the best ways I could describe this album is its the equivalent of taking LSD then scuba diving. Its very much ocean/drug themed with songs about eels, mollusks, pirates, and whales. Its also worth mentioning that a song of this album “Waving My Dick In The Wind” was a huge inspiration for SpongeBob. This is a weird, trippy, fun as hell album that is up there as one of Ween’s best.

Jeff Buckley - Grace
100

Jeff Buckley was a truly special talent and his death made listening to this album that much more tragic. The lyrics about death, the afterlife, and most disturbingly drowning are all the more reminders how life can be so unforgiving and cruel at times. This album is filled to the brim with some of the best vocals and instrumentation I've ever heard from an Alt Rock album. Jeff's singing just pierce straight though me, I feel every bit of sadness and heartbreak that he conveys across ... read more

Chocolate and Cheese is a musical bag of trail mix. Every song on this album takes on a different genre of music on each track from Alt rock to Funk music. The way Ween can so seamlessly transition from genre to genre and it sounds as good as it does is amazing. It blows my mind that songs like I Can't Put My Finger On It and Buenas Tardes Amigo are on the same album. While I do think the album faults a bit towards the back end with Candi and the HIV song sounding a bit flat compared to ... read more

YOU KNOW WE AINT GONNA DIEEEEEEE. While Jar of Flies is my personal favorite album from Alice in Chains, Dirt is their best record overall. Layne Staley's vocals across this project are absolutely incredible and filled to the brim with so much emotion and pain. Pair that alongside the dread inducing guitars and this album transports you to a hell where addiction, anger, and pain are kings and all you can do is helplessly watch as people slowly kill themselves with substances to try and ... read more

Björk - Post
85

Bjork is such a talented and creative artist it's hard to not like her music. Post is her sophomore project and the first Bjork album I ever listened to. This is a unique blend of Art Pop and Electronica backed by Bjork's wild vocal range which is so incredibly her. Bjorks vocals are so distinct and passionate it makes what she says in each song hit so much harder. Hyper-Ballad is the standout track off the album for me with Bjork singing about spending time alone to not lose part of ... read more

Bob Marley & The Wailers - Exodus
100

My favorite Reggae album of all time. I listened to this album a ton over the past week while on vacation and I was obsessed with the grooves that are all over this album. Bob Marley was such a talented artist and does an incredible job on this album tying many biblical stories into the history of slavery that people dealt with for centuries. This album is filled to the brim with calls for unity amongst the people backed by Marley's wonderful vocals across the entire project. This is a ... read more

SOFT PLAY - HEAVY JELLY
70

Soft play are anything but soft. This album kicks ass with some raw guitar riffs and edgy vocals. I love the sarcastic tone coming from the song Punk's Dead poking fun at the bands detractors and other hardcore punk fans at one point using the sound of a baby crying as said people complain in the background. This is a short but sweet 29 minutes and accomplishes everything you'd want out of a punk album with no filler.
